Good Gun Deals This Week

I don't know if $1,650 would be considered a "Good Gun Deal", but since 9.3x62 is a popular African cartridge & I don't see a lot of Ruger Hawkeye African rifles in that caliber pop up, I thought I would share a link. I like the rifle & the chambering but the bolt is on the wrong side for me:

That didn’t last long

Holland & Holland Royal Paradox made in 1910. They are not giving it away but it is less than I expected @17K. Fantastic engraving and wood, priced close to what a 12 bore in similar condition would be, I suspect. Who else bird hunts where you run in to the occasional boar? Or buck??
That looks like another great bargain;) And Guy is a good guy.

Now there is deal! Hope someone on the forum gets it!
Hope they reversed the image and it really doesn't have opposing cheek pieces.

I have no affiliation to it. I like it but I am a lefty and have one on a GMA by AHR. I wonder if this one has Wayne's synthetic stock.

Great price but if you plan on DG a 375H&H can be troublesome. 375 Flange would be the way to go
if you can explain that or where to learn this specific info. never owned a double but plan to some time this year. used and i have only owned up to 375 h&h magnum so i will stick with this caliber. thx for any help

is this close?
.375 Flanged Magnum is a variation on the belted magnum round and is suited to double rifles.
rimfire i believe.
where the flange aids extraction.
It is loaded to slightly lower pressure than the .375 Holland & Holland Magnum to ensure smooth extraction in a double rifle.

Not sure if it’s a left or right handed stock as the cheek piece switches sides in the different pics. That shop is in town btw. Lots of nice stuff there.
good eyes, i saw same thing and noticed on my computer an image can be flip flopped and especially a Monte Carlo cheekpiece will be duplicated even though it does not exist there...computer / AI just reproduces another image of same thing but changes the direction

The 375 H&H is an amazing round but it’s a belted magnum cartridge without a rim. Then 375 Flange however provides nearly identical ballistics from a rimmed case. Without getting too much into the weeds, and only giving the sparknotes version; the rim aids in extraction/ejection. Using a rimless case (like a 375h&H) can and has caused ejection issues/malfunctions because there’s no rim.

Maybe it’s me, but the last thing I’d want to do while hunting dangerous game is take a rimless cartridge, that has been known to have ejection/extraction issues in a double rifle and risk those issues happening during a life or death situation, which is significantly more likely to occur dangerous game hunting vs plains game hunting. Murphy has an uncanny ability to rear his head and I personally like to try and avoid giving additional places or reasons for him to do so.

I’d take a push feed 375 hunting before using a rimless cartridge like a 375H&H in a double rifle for Dangerous Game. Now a scoped 375 H&H Double for bait or plains game would be a lot of fun if I had a bunch of extra money.

*Westley Richards enters chat with a .425 WR (rebated rim) double rifle*

:P
Yes and the patented extractor designed for this cartridge by Westley IS the same extractor used in modern production double rifles chambered in rimless or rebated rim cartridges, yet there have been issues with extraction/ejection. Also look at how few rifles were initially sold/chambered in this caliber.

There are lots of double rifles chambered in rimless and rebated rim cartridges. I believe Mike Fell used to hunt with one in .458 Win Mag before he commissioned LARM to build his current .577. He's killed a lot more dangerous game than me, as have several other PH's using similar calibers. I personally am not hunting Dangerous Game with a gun that uses an additional/specially designed mechanical part, known to randomly fail without warning in a scenario where my life and more importantly the lives of others depend on it working. High stress/high adrenaline scenarios often result in malfunctions/issues, and I'd like to avoid the possibility of adding another avoidable one. I'm also firmly in the CRF Bolt Rifle for Dangerous Game camp, and suggest one avoids a high point for CCW.

Yes makes good sound, life saving sense to me. Let me look up some of this info and think over coffee…thx. Big help.

When I was young I relied upon luck.

One day I met an old cowboy in northern Nevada, he had a dog. As I pondered the dogs name, “Lucky” and looked over the 3 legged dogs condition. Lucky was blind in 1 eye. Tail half chewed off. Right ear missin a chunk of skin. Scratch marked and clawed all to hell with scars to prove battles fought. You get the idea.
from that moment on I vowed…Don't ever rely on luck again.
