Good Gun Deals This Week

Oh my goodness. That is a great price. However, I hate it when people do not list LOP!

Hello friends,

Many of you have asked me for advice on gun searches as it's a bit of a hobby for me to "see what is out there" each week. I discussed this with @AfricaHunting.com and he permitted me to create a running post on the Classifieds section.

The purpose of the posts will be to show what interesting guns of good quality and value may be popping up on the Internet each week. My personal guidelines of a "good gun" are as follows:

"That is a quality weapon with soul, character, inherent quality, and can be purchased for what I or others believe is a good value. This may mean a $60,000 gun is being sold for half of that price, hence a good value, or it may mean that it is a heck of a gun for someone with $200-$300 to spare but they don't want to buy plastic junk. Frugality and quality are important factors so hopefully the well-heeled and the working blue-collar man both get something out of the topic."

I invite others with experience to jump in and "kick the tires" if my critiques are off. There are many experts on this forum that will be able to add to the conversation in the hopes that we all get more knowledgeable at appraising the strengths and weaknesses of the guns listed.

A final warning: While I'll try to list guns that are offered on "legitimate" gun sites, a legitimate site is not a guarantee of a legitimate seller. You must always assess the legitimacy of any purchase by determining the feedback rating, methods of payment, and reasonable terms of any advertisement. Caveat emptor.

Regards,

@rookhawk
outstanding. thx

A gun I saw recently for the working man. It's a 1941 British Enfield sporter. These were imported in the 1960s and 1970s by Golden State Arms. Most of them are pretty low quality but their top of the line was the "supreme" which indeed, this specimen is. They had a very nice stock, likely by bishop, and are a completely serviceable arm that has a lot of class. Presently, the starting bid is $150. For somebody that wants to hunt North America with some dignity and love of tradition while spending less than the least expensive new piece of trash you can possibly find at the sporting goods store, this is a bargain.

***As always, I have no affiliation with the seller. Caveat emptor.
let the buyer beware...seems reasonable

The link below isn't for a "Good Deal" so much as a limited option that doesn't appear too often at a reasonable price. As a left-handed shooter, I look at a lot of Rugers but I've never been a fan of the newer Hawkeye Guide guns (Model 47124) with the big butt pad & the spacers. To me, it's an ugly rifle no matter how practical the adjustability might be.

I like the older early versions of the left-handed Hawkeye in 375 Ruger (Model 17100) with a laminated stock & a 20" matte stainless barrel. I see one of these older configurations pop up about once a year. If I didn't already have a pair of 375 H&H rifles, I would probably buy one.

Just called, rifle sold. Someone got a helluva deal, really nice Dakota Model 76 Traveler 375 H&H for $7500. Not sure Cabelas realized what they had.

Believe me, Cabela's/Bass Pro has offered up better deals than this on Travelers. Ooooof. :)

As i’m sure everyone sees all Cabellas aren’t equal. Having lived in TX nine years now back in GA as a native GA ones have horrendous selection of anything big bore…TX always seems to have some

Found at a local dealer, a Suhl Merkel in .470ne. What price would make this a good gun deal?

15 years ago some of these guns were purchased for as little as $5800 on the last day of the conventions.

I'd consider a good deal to be $7000-$8500. That is much more than a gun dealer would pay of course, but retail on one of these as consigned guns is typically in that $9000-$11000 range.

There are so many superior guns out there when you're at $11k, I'd just hold out for a better gun. But if you have a fixed budget and are willing to sacrifice quality and reliability, you wouldn't do poorly if you could buy it in the "good deal" price range.

I made an offer, but the consignor wants almost double your good deal range. The dealer said she might be motivated, but it’ll sit on his shelf for another 3 years.

Spend more, buy a Heym. You will not regret a Heym, you will regret a Merkel based on the general consensus on this forum, their lack of factory service, and the overall reliability. Virtually everybody sets an unreasonably low budget to buy a double rifle, buys a mediocre one, regrets it, then tries to resell it and start the process over. A nice used Heym can be found for $14,000-$17,000ish in base trim levels if you're very quick to purchase the second they list because they do not last long.

That’s why you see so few used Heym [emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]b and [emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]b coming for sale.

And most of the former is people selling them to purchase the latter.
