Good Gun Deals This Week

what do you think the regulating wedge is doing? Bending the barrels to adjust point of impact. Meticulous work that costs $1500 to have redone and can be completed by about 5 elderly gunsmiths in North America. It’s a pity to shoot a mono through a gun, or even a hotter load, if the consequences could be re-laying ribs and resetting the wedge.
Welllllllll….

I suppose I assumed the barrels were regulated as straight pipes, then soldered in place. But I also can’t distinguish between a side lock and a box lock, so there’s that…..

But yes, that makes no sense as they have to be part of the action. So I never gave it much thought.

Other than the barrel rib which to me looks like an afterthought, its nearly identical to my LSA 'Lee Speed' rifle.
Got mine at the LGS for just over $500, with an excellent bore.

I had a Rigby labeled one almost identical. I sold it with its $1000 case to an AH member years ago for somewhere in the high $2ks To low $3ks.

Lovely guns. Accurate. A bit ugly. Lots of maker’s names applied to them. I’ve had a few drinks so the name is escaping me of the guy that starts with a W that always marketed as “W-something from Purdeys” but he sold a BUNCH of them.

Full length rib and pop up front night sight add A premium. Case and accessories add a premium. A caliber other than 303 British add a premium. All fairly affordable rifles, even the slightly overpriced subject gun labeled a Jeffery.

Well, you know what to do if you see another one for that price. If I could only have one single rifle for everything, and I couldn't have any others, I'm pretty sure some variation of a Speed would be my choice.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t recognize AH’s own @Von Gruff who has built many custom sporters either on Lee Enfield or Lee Speed actions. He thinks the world of them also and has spun straw into gold with some of his custom stockings of a generally rough looking action.

But dont you think the rib looks like a later add on? I love the looks of mine, its on my never sell list.

It's difficult to adequately express my opinion/appreciation for his work. I wouldn't hesitate to own anything that came off his bench. (His knives are excellent as well!)

Unless the ad has been changed, it does say by Rauch. It is easy to miss that part though.

I thought that particular seller has a pretty good reputation. I’m not sure if they would deliberately try to mislead anyone?
I did see "Rauch", to which, this was far beyond my means to even ask here.
@rookhawk However has been an invaluable source of information. ie, The explanation behind "Sportsman Legacy's" listing on a "W.J. Jeffery". I can't recall who really built this?

I didn’t even read what the ad said, I just drooled over the pictures! I only noticed it once the issue was brought up.

Anyone willing to give an opinion on this H&W?

I fully realize that this rifle doesn’t really fit in too well here but here it is…

WARNING!! SOMETHING COULD BE UP WITH THIS HOWEVER!!!!!

528 views and I believe the buy now price might be a heck of a deal (maybe too good to be true?) as it is supposed to come with 400 rounds of custom loaded ammo.

The member is a very astute investor and knew what he was doing. There are a lot of expert level investor/collector firearms aficianados on this forum, I’m just the one thats the most chatty.
... and very much appreciated; not that I'll ever be buying these sort of rifles

Looks like a Haenel action to me. They are very desirable in Europe and you see a few in the USA, but they never sell. It’s in 22 Savage so its a fine gun for varmints and will probably be quite accurate, but the utility of the gun will be low. If you can get it cheap, by all means go for it. But if it sells for typical H&W prices its not something that will go up in value the way a largebore might.

It is currently listed for 2900€. I would not call that H&W money…

In Europe 5.6x52R ammo is available from Norma, RWS and S&B and perhaps other makers too. In Poland something is usually available in most hunting stores. The commercial loads tend to be of the heavy for calibre variety (around 70grain) and are well suited to Roe size game. Of the above mentioned producers S&B is the only one offering a FMJ load. I contemplated getting my single shot chambered for it but being a hand-loader settled on 5.6x50R as there is a better range of projectiles available.

Mint condition 500 Jeffery on Prechtl barrelled action is being auctioned on egun in Germany. The price is very low at the moment but with two weeks left on the listing will doubtless climb much higher.
