Going to Zimbabwe

Can you quote me the law please? Last year I paid for a parks ranger and a game scout as I was traversing both communal and parks areas. This year I am paying for a parks ranger again for the full 14 days and of course if I don't have to I won't.

So, your specific help with the law where I can forward the info to CMS and not pay the ranger fee would be appreciated.
If you're on just parks the fee should be 50 dollars a day.

It depends which parks office. There is some debate as to which fee applies. Some say $50, other offices say $70 or $80 or $100. Either way, 14-21 day hunt, $1400 was a reasonable approximation of the parks ranger surcharge.

As to your claim that it isn’t required, well yes and no. Yes, it is required, no it isn’t codified into law, yes parks started demanding it after Cecil.

But I’d like you to explain the more curious scenario: we’re driving along with no leopard plan but you’re the PH and we see a leopard in the two track in broad daylight that just leisurely stares, then walks away into the mopane. Please explain how that occurrence leads to me as a client getting an opportunity to kill that leopard you describe in your anecdote?

You can tattle to Charlton if you want the fee is only paid to scouts when they are working in the area they are assigned to if you were charged full price for 2 scouts on a 14 day dual area hunt someone put 700 bucks in their pocket you can bet your ass the poor scout didn't double down.

Pay forestry the daily upgrade and the tfee done period. We get the cat assigned if still available to anyone possibly desiring the cat it's just a small license fee no big money. In this case were a cat sitting on a limb in daylight and judged to be a legal male it could be taken for 15kish

FYI TO ALL HERE. I'm done arguing adios

I find it interesting someone came on here, creating an account to sort of flame on the thread, then running away in a huff.

I don’t think anyone said anything was illegitimate early in the thread, only that things are vague and don’t add up perfectly, simply that the person should do their due diligence.

It’s just my opinion, but things don’t add up as questions were met with hostility whereas a calm, non-hostile explanation could have led to free advertising and maybe more customers.

I know of no reputable PH that is going to reach over to a client on the cruiser and say “hey, I know you didn’t plan on killing a leopard, but there is one standing or sitting in the road, and by coincidence it’s standing presenting this gigantic nut sack which I can see because he’s that close, and I can also see in this mere second they he is clearly a mature male over 4.5 years old, in fact I’m so confident I’m betting my professional license on it, why don’t you reach for your rifle and climb on down and give it a shot right here, the leopard is going to stand there for you to do just that….oh, and on mere speculation of this auspicious event happening and me convincing you to shoot, I brought along a park ranger that we paid over a grand to have on the truck rather than trackers, just for this million to one scenario coming together”.

Ready, Fire, Aim!

Someone is needlessly selling a fantasy fairy tale to a client. It doesn’t need to be this way and it doesn’t need to be hostile. Coming on here to aggressively poke at members questioning these things politely makes it all the sketchier. You sort of leave the conversation with a bigger cloud over the hunt than when the post began. Especially as you pound your chest with your vast experiences in Zim as we are expected to believe this is a realistic situation for a client to expect even on 1% of safari hunts.

Obviously, you do not know the Dande area. In a given day one could be hunting both the Parks and communal areas. Hence, the need for both a ranger and a scout.

This coming August I will be hunting at Nyakasanga, no communal areas so just a ranger at $50 a day while looking for elephant.

What happened to your point just a couple posts ago? “My point is why do so many of you always jump straight to the bad side of this business?” It’s probably time for you to stop.

Hunted Dande, hunted Chewore so wrong again
I was there last August, I think I will go with what I saw. As a matter of fact the remaining quotas for both areas were different. For example, I could shoot a female Impala for bait in Parks areas, but only male Impala in communal areas as their quota was used up for females.

Well I now know I won't be booking with The Safari Connection or anyone he represents. Great attitude for a booking agent!
Same here. What a great rep there…jumping down the throats of very experienced potential clients who are simply looking out for each other and basically advising nothing more than to ask more questions for the purposes of planning.
A defensive ass isn’t who I’d hunt with…nor would I have them as an employee.

Plus he’s been there a whole 3 years. Many of you have socks that have spent more time in Africa.

Wow, there goes the cheap Leopard hunt the OP was talking about. Considering the trophy fee is about $7.5K that is an addon of $7.5K to daily fees without any work of setting up baits, cameras, blinds etc..

Not that there is anything wrong with the cost as a combo buffalo/leopard hunt daily fee difference is about that. However, telling the client that he'd be saving extra daily fees is misleading at best.

First of all I'm paying out of my pocket for these gentlemen to hunt Amundundamela as a donation to KCSCI he can add the cat and could possibly see a legal male at anytime during the hunt. I'm Sean Scott owner of the safari connection vetran of hundreds of booked hunts starting in the 90's with the Myers, then Russell Caldecott, Wayne Dietrechsen , Martin Pieters and am now financing Mike Blignaut so he can get started I neither care or value your opinion in any way you're obviously an ass. If you think that if you're riding around in any safari area in November say hunting buffalo and a big ele available on quota steps up that any PH is going to say no can't shoot we'll eat the quota because we can't work within the system your just kidding yourself. I'm old tired of armchair quarter backs and don't need your approval but I will guarantee that if you check me out online you'll find NOTHING negative. Kiss my asd

Well, you'd better tell him that it is a $15K adder like you stated earlier than his impression that he'd be paying just trophy fees if he shoots a leopard.

No one is making accusations, all people are saying is that one needs to do due diligence. BTW, with your attitude I would not take even a free elephant bull hunt from you.

Well ..... . I have neither a leopard nor dog in this hunt ....... but damn. I am pretty sure our new correspondent was really comfortable on the other site.

The attitude is very unprofessional. I’ll definitely remember name safari connection, but I wouldn’t take it out on the people he represents.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
