If I go to a different country for an extended visit- 6 months for "temporary" employment, would I be contacting the customs of that country? are there restrictions on taking (exporting) components with me?
I believe you cannot fly with powder or open primers. The only reason I know on primers is because of a public land DIY hunt I did in Hawaii during a muzzleloader season. Had to get powder and 209 primers after I got there.
In Australia, reloading components (including unprimed brass and projectiles) are restricted imports. In general they can only be legally imported if a permit to import has been acquired before importation. If Australia is one of the countries you're contemplating, then it's probably best to contact Dept of Home Affairs firearms.enquiries AT homeaffairs.gov.au for the particular requirements for someone coming for 6 months temporary employment.
Labeling your stay "employment", even temporary, can create many problems with your passport credentials, and for the people you may be visiting . Employment gets immigration and taxation agencies involved.
Actually the employment isn't normal wage earning- my involvement is through some church projects that are self-funded, so I'm paid to be there but in reality the church is just paying expenses, some of the funding I will have provided. the projects open for possible participation are Australia, New Zealand, a few South Pacific Island groups and a few South American countries. The more I look into it, the more I'll find some other activity to fill the off time that doesn't involve hunting or shooting.
Ok. I see Australia is one of your possible destinations. Firearm legislation and hunting regulations are a State responsibility. Consistent with uniform gun law policy, all States are different.
Ammo and reloading components are generally available locally, however Americans may be alarmed at the prices.
Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
