Given current affairs, how do you feel about flying through Europe to Africa?

I am to be in Namibia the end of June and I'm getting nervous.
Still haven't nailed down flights.
How are you getting there??

For Africa taking Qatar. However, I am flying to Europe next week and mid May. Not worried.

Qatar is a great option...

Direct Dallas or Houston to Doha.. then Doha to J'berg..

Tickets are usually very competitive.. Planes are great.. the airport in Doha is excellent.. and guns arent an issue as long as you do your paperwork...

Headed to Spain in April. If this goes thermonuclear it really won’t matter.

EWR (Newark) to JNB (Johannesburg) to WDH (Windhoek)

I’ve never had a reason to fly through Europe to get to Africa, but I’d have no concerns. I’m going to Spain in April and Poland in August. If it gets to a point we shouldn’t be traveling in an EU country, no one will be vacation traveling to Africa or anywhere else in world.

Off to Eastern Cape end of June. Usual route for us is Boston to London, 12 hour layover, then to Joberg then to Windhoek or PE. The Boston flight is a red eye, arrive Heathrow 7 am, spend the day in London, fly out 7 pm to Africa.
However, flights are limited and prices are just stupid.
Still no reservations, starting to sweat

I purchased my Premium Economy airline ticket to SA for September, about 6 weeks ago. That same ticket is now 1000.00 more!! Just 2 weeks ago I bought a business class ticket to SA for just 400.00 more than the current Premium Economy ticket for this September. Prices are certainly not stable right now!

I suspect that Qatar will be changing some routes to North America. So that will cost more in the future.

Sitting at ORTambo for flight back to USA. United to Newark to Chicago . Flight over was great..overnite at Afton then Airlink to Port Elizabeth, East cape
no issues, no problems. Smooth,,,booked it thru Kayak, rifle direct with Airlink 575 Rand fee to Airlink each way, Mr. X for rifle permits in Joberg and great service, hand holding all the way. Appears to be 8 to 12 hunters on this flight back to USA…dreading Newark with clearing firearm. will give a later update as to clearing.

yep...

I've got South Africa in July, Ireland in October, and then headed south to Argentina in November..

If Ireland ends up off the table.. Im guessing South Africa and even November really arent in the cards either...

We'll be dead... or a wee bit busy with other matters..

Putin has stashed too much money to blow up the world, he wants to enjoy it. Not sure mutual incineration is on his to do list.

I will be in Eastern Europe in May and June including Poland and Romania both of which border Russia. Frankly, if the war bleeds over into a NATO country, the only place that I will be going is across the River Jordan.

United bypasses Europe:

JNB-EWR-MEM

5 hour layover at EWR, but you have to clear customs, and you never know how long that might take.

Ah, think on the bright side of mortality. Next Thursday is St. Patrick's Day! If you can't make it to Ireland, you can enjoy your Guiness and corned beef and cabbage next week. I know I will! "May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead". Ha! Ha! Ha!

I sincerely hope we “are not off the table”. Visions of a dull red glow over the Wicklow Mountains

I decided this June trip to do United
Houston Newark Johannesburg .
Shorter travel time, avoid layovers and it really fit best for my safari dates.
I flew Qatar Business last year great service and Doha airport was amazing.
We will see how United Polaris Class is this year.

Thanks for the chuckle.
Wear your sunglasses.
Hope pre-roasted Ibex is not on the menu.

I too am doing United's Polaris Class in May! I flew United to JNB this past September, their noise canceling headphones are just 'ok'. I will be taking my own this year. Here's something you have probably seen, but it was the first time I had seen it. For this trip in May, I had the choice of Economy 900.00, Premium Economy 1696.00, Business 14,000.00. After purchasing the Premium Economy, a box popped saying I could upgrade for 707.00 each way to get Business!! So I paid the 1400.00 and got my Business seats for 3,100.00, not the 14,000.00 it showed when I was selecting the class of seat I wanted.
