German rifle manufacturers

Heym and Merkel do make some nice rifles for sure!

@thriller.
Not to belive that an American is using a Drilling.
A perfect gun for the wintertime, when the distances are not so far (150m).
1x 8 mm bullet(8x57RS) for pigs
1x slug for pigs also (feeding distance -50m,quick like a double)
1x 3,5mm shotgun for the foxes.
Sometimes an Einsteinium,a small barrell in .22 Hornet
My Drilling is over 80 years old and I love him.

I shot with him bears and ducks in Canada, big bores in Turkey and a lot of stuff at home.
In the next days I bring a few pictures of the old guy.

p.s Witold, best you can do
(My sugestion Mauser, Heym, Merkel or Sauer Daren).
I own 1 Sauer Drilling, 1 Simson Suhl, and 2 Heyms (1 is a Bock Drilling with a set of 16GA shotgun barrels) They all shoot great and the Heym has an in .22 Hornet (Germans love the .22 Hornet)

I advise my clients to think / spend as much on optics as the rifle.... We sell Merkel & Steyr & like both. Sauer & Blaser are also excellent. I would take a hard look at used also. You have a wonderful opportunity here!

I have JP Sauer 3000 Drilling 12/12 + 7x65R. + Zeiss 1.5-6x42 scope with claw mount.
When you look for drilling pay attention for scope, because scope change can cost as much as your gun
I also have old Merkel double gun 9.3x74R Cal Good gun for hunting moose with my carelian bear hound

That is a great Drilling. Agree, scopes are very important. Make sure you buy one with a good scope and mount. I can't even imagine how it would to find a Suhler Claw Mount in the US......

After a few months of searching, I finally decided on my first (of many, I'm sure) German firearm. She is a Suhl Fortuna mod 32 in 16/70 and 7.62x54r with Schmidt and Bender 2.5-10x56 glass. Very excited to get her out to the range and zeroed. Also, I'll be touring the Heym and Docter optik factories on Thurs, so who knows what that trip will bring. Thank you all for all the advice! WMH!

Very nice.... A kid in a candy store......

Very nice and very versatile rifle caliber. Will deal with everything from roe to red stag to a huge keiler. Of course it would also make a terrific plains game rifle. Congrats.

Good looking rifle sir! Enjoy!

Oops, just reread my post and it's a 7x57r.. no clue why I wrote 7.62x54.. guess my fingers got away from me ;)

Great rifle. Please tell Jim, Mark and Manfred at Heym Mark Ferrigno says hello!

you can't do nothing wrong with this good stick.
And built in those times means real gunsmith work.
Today they are selling mostly trousers in the stores :(.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
