Funny 7X57 Story

Here’s an even funnier story. I went to a local gun store to have my 7x57mm Mauser reblued. The clerk shows me a Remington Model 700 in 7mm Remington Magnum and told me that I should replace my outdated caliber rifle with something new like the 7mm Remington Magnum. I asked him (for kicks) why I should do that. His reply was “Umm, because everything’s better if it’s a Magnum”.

Needless to say, I was not amused.
That's a good one. The only magnums I'd own are the 300 & 375 H&H's and I already have them. Hang on to that 7X57! It's a gem.

The only thing I own that needs a belt are my pants. Don't use them and never had a situation where I needed or wanted one. Just one old hunters opinion.

He obviously has drank the kool aid and bought the drivel spewed by gun writers who haven't been there or done that. You can't fix stupid.

"I’d venture a guess that 60-80% of the gun owning public doesn’t know what a .275 Rigby even is"

Agreed, and nor do they care! Or need to care. There are enough calibers to go around.

Let me take a wild guess! That clerk was 30 or under…..

This is my .275 H&H Magnum, built by Paul Jaeger on an FN Magnum action.

Heeeh, wonder what he'd said if you'd told him the 7mm mag was introduced in 1962, same year the 700 rem introduced. 60 years ago & 38yrs older than him????

It gets even funnier. He told me that they use 7mm Remington Magnums for elephant hunting in Africa. I asked him when was the last time he hunted in Africa.

There was a long awkward silence after that. I wonder what he'd do if I told him about WDM Bell and his infamous elephant rifle- the puny 7x57mm Mauser ...

He wouldn’t have known what the 7X 57 is, heck I’ve had people here in Montana ask what’s the 7X57.
I haven’t hunted Africa, but we have Grizzlies here.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
