For you beer drinkers...

I agree Mosi is the best beer I have had in Africa. Anyone who can get their hands on Alaskan Amber needs to give it a try. Truly an excellent beer.

WAB,
+1 on the Alaskan Amber.
In bottles it is quite good.
For those who plan visiting Alaska some day, just like any beer, AK Amber is even better on tap.
Although it’s called an “amber ale”, it is not as sweet as many amber ales I have tried.
It has just a tiny hint of a mild, smooth India Pale Ale but just slightly.
It is its own unique style.
Indeed Alaskan Amber is one of the worlds best beers, IMO.

All Fellow AH Members,
Likewise, here in Alaska, we have the best I have tried anywhere.
Well, anywhere where I have lived or visited, LoL.
It is Fairweather IPA, crafted here in Anchorage, at The Broken Tooth Brewery.
It’s available in cans but not remarkable as such.
Fairweather (Named after Cape Fairweather, Alaska) is however simply incredible on tap.

sestoppleman,
A little later this winter, I will be passing through Seattle in transit to elsewhere.
An old pal now living in Renton, will be whisking me away from the airport for a few hours to visit Pinto’s Guns and then have lunch.
I shall make every effort to try the local Washington brewed African Ale, you have described.

Cheers,
Velo Dog

@Velo Dog if you can find it be sure to try Kodiak Nut Brown.
Thanks, will do.
I may have had that one before.
If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it somewhat resembled a Porter style but thankfully not as sweet.
More like the excellent British beer known as, Newcastle Nut Brown Ale.

You nailed it.

Personally I prefer the Namibian beers - made with hops ,barley over the SA beers which use maize. If I want a mielie I’ll take it as sadza with a thick steak and seshebo and not from a can.
Kevin you may need to translate this for our International members! Or alternatively they need to come and see first hand!

Something you can find in Montana, along with Moose Drool beer.

In SA, Castle for lager, Carling has a good dark ale/stout.
@Nyati
When I was in England the only cold beer they served was Carling. I rated i t one step above cat pee. I couldn't come at any of the warm pommy beers.
I do like a could of barbed wire tho. Moe commonly call castlemaine xxxx gold.
Bob.

I was very impressed with this beer in Zimbabwe (Zambezi Lager) and also found most the beers in Namibia, RSA and Botwsana to be fairly good; if cold (albeit, more limited selection for brews outside of the typical lagers or pilsners such as pale ales, IPAs, ISAs, porters, etc.).

After a day in the African sun though and just drinking water, I would be happy to just drink beer brewed from the sweat of a bushpigs's ass...

If passing through in Alberta, Canada anything by Big Rock is really good. Suggest to try this one given its African hunting theme!

Hello Brent in AZ,

I love the artwork on this label of “Trout Slayer Ale”.
One year ago, I was hunting deer in Montana, (in The Gravelly Range, above Ennis) with two old high school friends.
But sadly, I was not aware of this brew until just now.
Next time I visit Montana, I will look for it.
Also, even though I had the colossal misfortune to be born and raised in Los Angeles, nonetheless I have relatives in Fergus County / Lewistown, MT. (Boise Idaho as well, but these are for another story).

And so, I get down there to rifleman and cowboy heaven, from time to time.
Blah, blah, blah, LoL.
Anywhooo, next time I’m visiting that part of the world, I will look for Trout Slayer ale.

In regards to Moose Drool beer, we actually see that one here in Alaska liquor stores from time to time.

I believe our political opinions pretty much match.
Plus, your taste in rifles and beer are similar, LoL.
So, if you ever get around to visiting Anchorage some day, let me know and I’ll buy you a cold one or three.

Regards,
Paul.

Thank you. I've spent a lot of time in the Madison valley over the years fishing the Madison, as well as some hunting. Great place!

Zambezi Lager is good stuff. I like Windhoek Lager. Castle is always good, my boy liked the Carling better than I did. I "discovered" Amstel Lager in RSA and fell in love with it. Cant get it stateside, only Light which to my mind is criminal. Last time I had Amstel in RSA, it tasted just like Heinekin which I understand now owns Amstel. Too bad, they ruined it.
As to Moose Drool, lets just say the name fits it well. I got carded at over 50 years old in MT one time trying to buy a bottle at the local KOA. Guess they were trying to do me a favor...
The African Amber is similar to Alaskan Amber, which is like other beers, better on tap.

I was just looking at the big liquor outlet website here in Tucson for the African Amber. Looks like they don't carry it.

Oh bad luck! Not surprised though. I was surprised to find it locally! You might try under Mac and Jacks Brewery.

That is some cool artwork on the African Amber!

The best beer I have ever tasted was in Zambia.... MOSI
If you are ever there, do yourself a favor and try it!

When I was in Zambia they had Castle and Mosi in the ice box. They quickly learned that only the Mosi was being consumed. Excellent beer!

You’re welcome.
Once more we agree, the Madison River is just about as perfect a trout habitat as any flyrodder could hope for.
