For you beer drinkers...

Resurrecting an older thread here, in keeping with the spirit of Octoberfest of course When thirsty and hot, I prefer something like a San Miguel or Corona with lime. But when worn out after a long, wet trip and your body says, “give me some nourishment”, for me, nothing beats a dark ale or porter with some real body. Guinness or Modelo Negra or similar are nice.

However, a couple of months ago, I made a point to stop by Eddie’s in King Salmon AK, visit with Eddie a bit and grab a beer. Hadn’t been there in three years. Eddie was stationed there in 1969 in the Air Force… he never left I asked Eddie his recommendation for a dark beer. He handed me a Matanuska Deep Powder Porter and cold glass. If you like dark beer that tastes good, has no odd after taste and has real body… give Matanuska Deep Powder Porter a try if you can finds it. Excellent dark, heavy ale, best I’ve ever had! Available around AK… other areas … I don’t know?

Greetings Fellow Beer Enthusiasts,

For those Alaskans who either live in the Anchorage vicinity or, for those who live anywhere on earth and might visit Anchorage, if you enjoy a thick but smooth black beer from time to time, I recommend Pipeline Stout (picture attached below left).

It is brewed in Anchorage, by The Broken Tooth Brewery.
It is available on tap, (among a very few other local restaurants and bars), in said brewery’s flagship pizza restaurant and pub—> The Moose’s Tooth.

Generally speaking, I tend to favor IPA style beers.
However, during our cold winters here, I do enjoy a pint of stout beer now and again.

As such and previously mentioned in one of my earlier rants on this very topic, Fairweather IPA (also made by Broken Tooth Brewery), on tap (not so good in cans) has been for several years now, my steady #1 favorite beer.
That said, Nevada Brew Works (in Las Vegas), makes one that according to my cave man taste buds is as good if not just a tic better than Fairweather IPA is.
It is called Ariana Rye PA.
I don’t know if it’s available in cans or bottles but it is simply splendid on tap.

You guessed it, indeed it tastes like it is made from rye instead of barley.
The best thing about it though is that, a USA Dollar from every pint sold is donated toward a little local girl’s medical treatments, as she has leukemia.
Her name Ariana.
Great beer, greater cause.

I love beer. It's why I almost exclusively drink Coors Lite: it tastes like crap. Unlike Lays potato chips, I can barely drink just one. Sticking to Coors keeps me out of trouble. Most supercharged Canadian beer tastes great but leaves me instantly face down in my drool with a headache. Or it makes me friendly. Don't want anyone getting the wrong idea thinking I'm a nice guy.

A small brewery in Palmer, just north of Anchorage. Surprised it showed up out at King Salmon- air freight direct or barge to Naknek only way to there.

I was introduced to Fokof Lager in South Africa last year by my PH. I was intrigued with the name and asked him what it meant in Afrikaans? He said it meant exactly what it sounded like in English, lol. It was quite good. Bright and crisp. I no longer drink much beer but this one was good. I am partial to English ESB's, Pale Ales, German style Hefeweizens and Dunkels.
