For the New Double

Sorry Charlie (no pun intended) I don't understand something. Did you rotate the target between the second and third shots? In the top photo the scoring numbers are running vertically, while in the bottom photo they are running horizontally. My second question is did you operate the rear trigger first as this will prevent a double fire, at least that is what I read in other double rifle posts. Did you fire the rifle from a bench using sand bags or similar to see where it was currently zeroed? Normally I would do that, prior to attempting any unsupported shooting position.

The target was covered with a new one between multiple shots. My friend shot his new 416 a few times. No bench rest this time. Was just trying to fire it a few times to get use to it. Double fire was surely my error due to me not seating the rifle firm enough into my shoulder while shooting off the sticks. Even with the double fire one round was close enough to kill but the second went well over the target.
As mentioned the round that was almost a bullseye was from the sticks firing just the right barrel.

This was my rifle before I sold it to Charlie, and I had confirmed that the sights were well regulated. Would definitely be a good idea to shoot from a bench to make sure it shoots correctly for the current owner though, as I would assume having a different shooter could possibly change point of impact. However I wouldn't think that would be the case.
As for the doubling issue, I never had it happen to me when I had the rifle, however I only shot it a total of 16 times. I've read that the usual cause is hitting the back trigger while the gun is in recoil. I've also read that the front trigger should always be pulled first, due to the rear trigger having a heavier pull, to prevent doubling. This rifle has intercepting sears if I'm not mistaken, so the rifle itself shouldn't double without shooter error.
Being this is the only double I had ever owned, I don't have any other experience to draw from, other than what I've read on the subject. So once your finger heals up Charlie, let us know how she does next time! I bet you won't be disappointed!

Not disappointed at all this time. Just learning how to handle it right.

Imm . . . . . pressive!
You can’t see it from the picture but I sent tracings of the double rifle to them and the bottom of the back section is molded to match the conture of the Merkel. Front section will hold a standard rifle with scope. Two storage boxes In the lid for bolts or cleaning supplies or stuff.

I hope it has wheels. My Aluminum case with 2 bolt action rifles weighs in at just under 45 lbs. Hopefully yours is under the 50lb. limit as well.

Has the built in wheels and weighs in at 27 pounds. So with an 11 pound Merkel that takes me to 38 pounds. That leaves me another 12 pounds for another rifle and some STUFF.

Art I like the way the case will stand up on its own in a vertical fashion or horizontal when removing the firearms!

Good looking case Charlie!

It was way less than my 458Lott and a tad more than my 416. Not bad at all actually. Now with my short fingers and My lack of experience with a double the second broadside was a double fire. Frankly that wasn’t bad either on the shoulder but it caught my middle finger pretty good with the back of the trigger guard.
Make sure the issue is really a trigger finger slip or something like that and not an issue with the sear. A double with double triggers shouldn't double. If it really is an issue with your trigger finger (pretty rare thing), then an alternative manual of arms is to fire the rear trigger first. But I would make sure that rifle is behaving properly. I have only had two double trigger guns double, and in both cases it was a sear issue.

I’m 99% sure it was me strumming the triggers. It didn’t do it the first time I shot it or the third. When it warms up a bit I will get back to the range.

It is seventy-five and clear here in South Texas - just saying.

I like the shape of your new Aluminum Gun Case better than the Kalispel 2 Gun case that Art and I both have.

That´s a professional gun case Charlie ;)

Nice case Charlie

Charlie that is one smart case. I’m sure even the gorillas (baggage handlers) at OR Tambo won’t be able to bust that bad boy up.

I hope that you are correct my friend.

That case looks great, built like a tank!

And all things that were are now new. The design is essentially an Edwardian "carriage" or "motor" case. They worked in leather and oak form in the "boots" of early motor vehicles and will do the same in modern form on an airline. Great design.

Charlie that case is so nice you should add it to your 4457
