I purchased this about a year ago from a local dealer, who consigned it from a fellow who made it his avocation to build rifle stocks. In this case, he acquired this CZ 550 American in 9.3x62 and did it up as a British sporter. He was going to make a trip to Africa, but that didn’t happen. As shown in the pictures, he reshaped the factory stock to include a pancake cheekpiece and shortened forearm. I’m not sure if he installed the barrel-band swivel or if that was done at the factory. He did install a Ruger steel grip cap, like those provided on No. 1 rifles. The finish, per a letter he wrote about the work, is a poly/oil blend. It is was also glass bedded with a floated barrel. The glass bedding is cleanly done. The trigger was tuned and is crisp at about 3 pounds. Feeding is smooth. He also did some load development and provided a box of handloads; those are Barnes TTSX bullets propelled by Varget. I shot one group with these (see last picture). I had mounted a 4x scope. My eyes are not what they used to be and with more magnification it probably would have been a better group. At least that’s the case with my other rifles. The letter said the gun was a good shooter and so it appears to be. It’s a fairly light rifle. I’d guess it’s about 7.25 pounds. The length of pull over the red Decelerator pad is just over 13.5 inches. The rifle is just as clean inside and out as it appears in the pictures. About the only thing to note is that he moved the rear sling swivel and filled the previous hole. I included that in the pictures.

If Africa becomes a possibility for me again, I’ll probably take my favorite rifle, a No. 1 in 300 H&H, and something bigger suitable for buffalo. Email with questions to jeffrey davis phd (no spaces) at gmail dot com, or PM if that’s easier. I have larger versions of these pictures and some additional pictures as well.

Nice rifle, I really like the work done to it.

That will make a great Deer or PG rifle, you shouldn't have any trouble selling it. Since it is a CZ you might want to mention how it feeds multiple rounds from the magazine.

Well, it only feeds one round at a time from the magazine, of course! :) Actually, it feeds and extracts smoothly. No glitches, which I know can be a problem with some CZ rifles (it is with my CZ 527 varmint rifle in 223, and that is a single stack magazine.)

What's the barrel length? Do you do any trading?

I measured the barrel and it is 23 1/2 inches. Trades seldom seem to come together, but there are a couple things I would consider. A Leupold Vari-X3 or 3i, at least 10x max magnification and an adjustable objective would catch my interest. It would have to have an AO. I like Ruger No. 1 rifles but since there’s already several here I’m picky. Can’t think of other things at the moment. Thx

Looks a bit incomplete without quality iron sights, though.

Is this rifle still available

I will take it, per my AR PM

thanks

When it rains it pours. There were two "I'll take it posts," time stamped four minutes apart. It's listed on **NOT**PERMITTED** as well (no other forums except here). The other post was about 6 minutes earlier. I was out to lunch with a buddy and saw these when I returned. I hate these situations, but I don't know any other fair way to handle it except using the time stamp. Regardless, I apologize and hope you understand. If the other buyer should back out for some reason, I would be happy to offer it again to you before listing again. :(

The guy on AR is me Gale Johnson? I sent you a PM there

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
