First trip to Africa

Philip,
Just doing plains game and we do not have any special preferences. Just going to go with an open agenda and take the hunt as it comes.

Welcome..... If you need help with the importing of your trophies ........I'm here to help...... Best.....

Welcome John!
Nothing like AH for information and getting people on their way to Africa.

Welcome to AH John. Good luck on your upcoming trip

Welcome to AH John! Enjoy the forum, it's very addicting.

Welcome aboard. I like your medal!! Mine says DISTINGUISHED PISTOL. Ask any questions you may have, knowing what to expect helps keep the anxiety down. Because of AH I did not feel like a "newbie" when I went on my first Safari last August. What have you hunted in the States? What caliber rifle(s) will you be taking to Africa?

Welcome, John!

You're going to love Zim! I think you'll have an especially nice trip since you've not pressured yourself with a set bag. Let nature present its opportunities to you and relish the whole experience.

Make sure to try the biltong and ask them to make some for you while in camp! Best part about the trip is the biltong! :)

Best of luck! I'm sure it will be a trip to remember

I'm jealous! Not only that you're going, but you talked your lady into going with you. That is great! Letting Africa give you the game is also a good move. Reading the AH info on preparing for a safari and on Zimbabwe will add a lot to your planning. Oh and don't forget to do lots of practicing off of sticks!
Have a wonderful trip and please take pictures and at least a brief report for those of us who yearn for a trip!
Best!

Glad to see a fellow Michigander here, and a competitive shooter to boot, not many recognize the badge. I'm taking my Pre 64 M70 30/06, it's 2 years older than I am and deserves a good hunting trip. Hunted deer and turkeys here but my true love is bird hunting. I have access to 14,000 acres in South Dakota and have been hunting there for almost 25 years now.

Welcome! You'll enjoy the camraderie here.

Welcome proneshooter!
So do you have a dog to birdhunt in SD? Hint...hint...;)

Where do you live? I know lots of rifle shooters, perhaps we have some friends in common.

Howell, I know a few guys out your way also. Have tossed around the idea of working on my Distinguished Pistol badge, guys have told me it's an entirely different animal.

Nice! They should be great on birds! Excellent breed choice too.

Mark Compton thought the same thing. He is now a Four Time Distinguished Shooter. If you are serious about the pistol thing, check out the Taylor Pistol Clubs website. We shoot Bullseye on Tuesdays, starting at 5:00 P.M.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
