Planning first PG safari with my dad In Limpopo. We are trying to figure how many days. On the list 1 kudu, 1 bushbuck, 1 zebra, 1 sable, 2 impala, 2 warthog, 2 gemsbok, 2 blue wildebeest to be split between the two of us. Question is how many days for this? Then as far as bringing trophies home recommendations for brokers, dip and pack etc.

Depends on the ranch but I would suggest ten days. Seven might work but might feel rushed for twelve animals. Good luck! Your operator should have a local broker already to do dip/pack and export. On the USA side, there’s F&F in NY, Coppersmith’s in Chicago, etc…

12 animals is a big list. IMO I’d book ten to fourteen days.
Check with your operator as to who they recommend for dip and pack. On this side of the pond, pick your taxidermist and check with him who he uses for a broker. If he doesn’t have a particular one in mind, there are several reputable ones.

For a trip of this distance and that many animals...10 days would be the minimum, but I'd lean towards 2 weeks. Just for the sake of the long plane ride. Take your time, smell the roses. STALK your animals...don't just shoot from the truck.

Best of luck to you and enjoy your trip.

EDIT - Wife and I did 10 animals in 10 days and I would have rather taken less animals or had more time for the same ones. Please don't try to rush it.

You’re selling yourself short if you go less than 10 days and have the time. Plan for 10 if you finish early your outfitter can always arrange other activities or low cost hunting such as bird hunting. You outfitter will suggest a taxidermy for dip and pack and that taxidermy will give you options on who to ship with from Africa side. I’ve used trophy shippers for clearing last two hunts and have been very happy with them. Coppersmiths has a very good reputation. I’ve used fauna and flora multiple times. They’ve always got my trophies to me but are extremely difficult to communicate with.

Craig Boddington stated that a hunter average per animal is 1.5 days. I have found this to be a pretty accurate scoring average.

I learned 10 days hunting is the least I can do. My bigger Hunts are 12 to 14.

1.5 days per animal would be a bit much in SA for his list, I would say. Perhaps CB was talking about wilderness hunts.

Hi @Kowalski

My recommendation would be a minimum of 10 days. Rather have extra day than not enough, you don't want to rush your first hunt in Africa!

Sincerely
Dieter

Good Day Kowalski

Very good questions that is frequently asked.

First of all to be able to do a safari with your Dad is great privilege and you will create many and lasting memories.

Rule of thumb is 1 animal per day per hunter.Do you want to hunt 1x1 or 2x1? That will also have an impact on the number of days.

Regards

Rouan

Days should be the most that you and Dad can spend over there. Its a long way to go to short yourself on days. I have NEVER had a safari I wished was shorter. EVERY safari I have wished was longer.

Only if work or something sets your available time away would I worry about how many animals per day is "normal". Take the loooongest time you can possibly take, fill days with hunting trophies, cull, or maybe ration, seeing, feeling and immersing in safari is my recommendation. Plus time with Dad making memories will be priceless.

My 2c.

I treat D&P same as a safari, send out your wants to as many as you can find, then narrow down, do your ref checks, definitely do a search and use this site, and then maybe even visit while there prior to having your trophies delivered.

Experience demonstrated to me that the outfitter recommended D&P outfit, is sometimes not the best priced. Never hurts to shop for D&P like outfitter and shipper.

uessing this is slpit between the 2 of you
so its 6 animals each
if you want to hunt together then a minimum of 10 days , if your are each going 1/1 then u should be ok in 7/8 days
but as most have said here, more days is better, take it in enjoy the experience, have sometime to look around and enjoy sundowners, stop the hunt early and have gin in the bush, these are really the moments you will remember and cherish

any other info you may need or want, feel free to contact me

looking forward

Like some have said minimum 10 days. I personally will never do less than 10 now. Most trips 14-21 from now on. I want to stop relax and enjoy. Take my time looking for the right one, not just a good one. Soak it all in each trip.
