First Africa trip shipping estimates

Coppersmiths in Atlanta has their own warehouse so should not have storage bills. Be careful on who u ship to cause stuff may accumulate considerable fees waiting on inspection

I’ve used Coppersmiths in Atlanta before, I pick up my crates at their warehouse and with no swine or primates in this shipment there shouldn’t be any underlying delays ( fingers crossed ) other than normal government BS.

Trophies are one step closer to home. Booked on a flight out of Johannesburg on July 31 due to arrive Atlanta August 1. Then to customs, USFWS for who knows how long.

Can't wait to see the pictures!

Trophies touched down in Atl Monday night, once through customs Coppersmith’s will take over for the USDA and USFWS formalities ( not sure about the order of the bearucratic stuff ) once cleared off to ATLANTA for pickup. Once collected I will post all of the post safari costs, taxidermy, crating, permits, shipping and clearance. Not real sure I want to see the lump some but as the charges come intermittently they aren’t that hard to absorb.

Here is the final breakdown of after safari costs from my 2021 safari in RSA.
taxidermy $ 4680.00 in house Shaun Keeny Safaris
Shipping , crating and permits $ 3642.00 SBS logistics
Clearance, transport and warehouse fees $ 500.00 Coppersmiths ATL
Terminal handling fee, $ 215.00
Storage fee, $ 198.00 Turkish airlines
APHIS USDA $ 28.00
Was charged $ 93.00 for CITES inspection but was refunded no CITES in this crate.
Total clearance in Atlanta was $ 941.00
Grand total after safari expenses. $ 9263.00 ($ 1550.00 per animal)
Crate landed in Atlanta on August 1st and was ready to pickup on August 10th. I will pick them up on August 15th. About 14 months from when we left Africa. Seems about average from my other shipments except for the 2 year delay due to Covid on my 2018 safari.

We’ll I’m almost there!!! Next week I should be getting my crate of ten animals. Four mount, three rugs and the rest euro mounts
$5000 for mounts in South Africa, outside of port Elizabeth
$1600 for shipping and fumigation to los Angeles
$1800 for trophy shippers, $500 for delivery, plus storage fees, us customs and paperwork fees

this safari was in June of 21, taxidermy was done in may of 22. Took almost 3 months to get everything together.

will take lots of pictures

Truly amazing how much they can pack into a crate, 6 mounts and a floor pedestal. Now trying to rearrange the trophy room so these can be displayed! Not going to be easy.

Christmas has arrived early this year!!!!!!! Received my crate. Wow really nice job on packing. Made the trip with no problems. Trying to air them out of the fumigation smell? The zebra skin is awesome along with the other three skins. My wife says we can hang it up in the main living room? They are so cool to have finally! It been 14 months. I have to say going into this kinda blind, I made some good decisions on having them mounted in South Africa and having them shipped. I’ve had four other mounts done here and I’m not impressed with the taxidermy industry at all. So having ten items done and shipped make me very happy.

My wife had me drape my Zebra rug outside over the patio table for a couple of days due to the smell. Was fine thereafter. (Weather was cooler and dry back in May, however - in case that matters.)

Merry Christmas! Unboxing is exciting.

@Still alive ..... What made you decide to go with the neck mounts instead of the shoulder mounts? Saving space on walls?

Congrats

My wife will let us hang the zebra rug up, she doesn’t like stuffed animals??? So the rest will be going into smaller bedrooms and man cave? Which is smaller than a bedroom.

Almost finished rearranging trophy room, still have to hang waterbuck, impala and blesbok. Waiting on a full range system for the waterbuck and some material to build pedestal for the blesbok. The klipspringer, springbok, Limpopo bushbuck, gemsbok and roan are the animals from 2021. The gemsbok barely fit, he was supposed to be in a sneak type pose but is in an upright position.

Congrats! that looks awesome!

Just received quote to ship finished items via air cargo from SA to LAX for $2400.

I've been quoted $1300 from some of these more popular "Trophy " clearing agents to clear my one crate of non cites animals through LAX. I've also got quotes online from customs clearing agents near LAX that'll do the clearing for $400, thats a pretty big difference. Is there anything special that the Trophy agents do or know that the other folks don't? I'm I could almost get a cheap tickets to LAX, spend a night, clear it myself, rent a uhaul and deliver it to the DHX Hawaii terminal for less than $1300!
Anyone recommend a clearing agent in the LAX area that they've used themselves?
Aloha

just got a quote yesterday from Badger Cargo from SA to Chicago or Denver for a Gemsbuck pedestal mount (I made the pedestal) and 3 euros (impala, blesbuck, and red hartebeest and a jackal hide) cost 814.00 either place and 1800.00 for Coppersmith doing the clearing and shipping to my house.funny thing I never told them where I live. also Condor Freight was also the same shipping cost.

Make sure to have your quote to clear your trophies (US) in writing. I was given a quote, and now my quote double. Once I clear this issue, I will show who it was. Not too happy with this.

With shipping changing weekly I doubt that anyone will give you a solid quote on paper for clearing trophies.

They can give you their fee along with what storage per day may be but all the rest is guess work. Other than perhaps being able to give you a good average price.

Is this on the US side or shipping side in Africa?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
