I love a well crafted cocktail. Probably too much.

We’ve had threads on gin and tonic, whiskey appreciation, cocktails that remind you of Africa and so I propose you post up your favorite cocktail and how you make it.

I love the old tiki cocktails, as I am quite fond of rum, and one of my favorites is a not well known drink…..

The Vicious Virgin….(nothing virgin about this gal)

¾ oz fresh lime juice
1½ oz grapefruit juice
½ oz orgeat syrup or Homemade Orgeat Syrup
¼ oz orange liqueur
¾ oz light rum
¾ oz tequila

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Share your favorite…..

Rye Manhattan

- 2 oz Rye Whiskey (Nothing fancy needed. Jim Beam will work)
- 1/2 oz Carpano Antica Vermouth (No substitute allowed!)
- Ice - (Must be frozen well below zero Fahrenheit)
- Orange peel (Size of your small finger)

Ice a shaker glass 1/2 to top
Twist orange peel over ice to express into ice
Pour whiskey
Pour Antica
Stir
Strain into chilled Martini glass
or
Pour into Rock glass with ice

Garnish with orange peel

Maybe add a nice cigar to the mix and you're all set! Enjoy!!

And I thought this was going to be about rooster pheasants.

Tequila old fashion- warm weather
2 oz anejo tequila
1 oz mezcal
Agave nectar to taste
Bitters ( I make my own or you can use peychauds)
maraschino cherry
Lime wedge
Chili salt is good as desired

Or a classic bourbon old fashion in cold weather. But I use very little if any simple syrup.

It’s split between 3:

Seelbach:
1/2 shot Cointreau
1 Shot Bourbon
4 Dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
Brut Champagne (I like Moet or Gruet)

Stir Bourbon and Cointreau with ice and strain into champagne flute. Top off with Brut Champagne

Smoked Old Fashioned:
1-2 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp hot water
3 shots Bourbon
3 dashes Aromatic bitters
Lemon peel

Mix hot water and brown sugar to make a syrup.
Chill a highball with 3 ice cubes (or 1 big one). Sweep lemon peel around the rim of highball and toss into glass. Smoke highball glass with bourbon barrel chips

Mix Bourbon, syrup and bitters in shaker with ice, stir. Strain into prepared highball.

Boulevardier:
Equal parts bourbon, Campari, and Carpano Antica vermouth. Prep like a negroni, serve with orange slice.

I typically drink 1792, Elijah Craig or 4 Roses and adjust for their sweetness

Sorry to disappoint, but I will share an anecdote… Recently, my wife and I were sitting at a somewhat swanky bar in the Atlanta area and this big burley fellow walks up to the bar and orders himself a cosmopolitan…. I couldn’t help but give him some shit about it as the waitress sits it down on the bar…. We struck up a conversation and he orders my wife and myself one…. wasn’t bad, nice fellow.

Moral of the story don’t judge a man by his pink drink.

I prefer a drink that is simple enough to really notice the quality flavors in the alcohol, so not many fancy drinks for me. Once in a while a good manhattan.

Going to try all these though admittedly I’m not big on champagne.

This may be a dumb question and I’m probably overthinking it, but do you pack your 2 teaspoons of brown sugar?

Honestly, I don’t measure it. It’s more of an eyeball. Prepare more than you need and just add until you reach what tastes good.

Edit: the Seelbach is good, but sometimes I lower the champagne and increase the liquors when I just want the fizz, but be careful- It works fast!! :D Booze:

We’ve got a variation of the duck fart here on the east coast we call the black duck. For those of you unfamiliar with the duck fart it was made famous by the late captain phil Harris of deadliest catch fame, the original duck fart is a mixture of crown royal and baleys.

The black duck is mixed in a pint mason jar.
Fill jar 3/4 full of ice
Add 4 oz Kailua
Add 2 oz golden wedding whiskey
( Canadian 83 or black velvet work in a pinch )
Fill jar with chocolate milk and stir.

Similar but unrelated to booze. Before a fire burned it down, my favorite sporting clays course also had a nifty restaurant and events place. There was clearly a gender reveal party (for an expecting couple and not a confused 25 year old) being held. I was trying out a 20g at the wobble stand and this big ole rascal comes up next to me to also shoot wobble at the next stand. And I mean this was a big dude. Not little debbies big, but hey spot me bro big. I say hello and I'm just about to make some snarky comment about gender reveal parties. When he turns to me and his shirt says Baby Daddy. I shut up and wished him a fine day and my congratulations.
