Everyone's home front hunting 2019?

So, how is everyone doing on their native soil this year? Feel free to post it here.


I'll keep mine short and sweet. Four days on a bluff I call my 200-foot tree stand looking for moose below yielded no legal moose (it has to be either a spike/fork or 50"+ bull), though two in the illegal range (of course). So I switched to caribou. First day on the Denali Highway I spotted a small herd late in the day and directed some friends to them while I did some more scouting. They got one for the freezer and were hauling out into the night. Next day I spotted another herd of a couple dozen a mile plus out, walked in and after a smaller group made the mistake of looking back one too many times at the idiot taking off his backpack who spooked them I got an 80 yard shot on a fine meat bull. Two trips out the first day until the sun went down and a final trip to get the last of the meat the next day had me feeling tired but happy.

I had the honor of being with my grandson when he took his first buck using my Ruger RSI in 250-3000. Made my whole season. Still can't wipe the smile off his face.

Took my 4 year old daughter out on her first black bear hunt. She fell asleep after a couple hours on the stand. I saw a good bear coming through the trees but when I woke her she moved a little too quick and the bear heard her jacket rub against the stand. He took off pretty quick. As he was back in the trees and didn’t see us I thought there was a chance he would come back so we stayed put. After appx 45 min I saw him sneaking back in. This time she was already awake. A couple shots with the 375 H&H and we had our bear. decent bear should score right at 19”.
She has already found a spot in her bedroom for the hide. My father shot a real giant tonight so will post some pics tomorrow.

I took a spike buck last day of whitetail season in January 2019 out between Kerrville and Bandera. Later I took two feral boar out between Sweetwater and Abilene in April 2019. All with my .25-06 Interarms Mark X with 24" barrel. Nothing yet 2020. We'll see what autumn brings.

Here are some pics of my dads big bear he shot last night. Should score right around 20”.
We have been trying to get this one for 4-5 years and he finally made a mistake.
