While this site isn't a political platform, we all need to keep in mind that every country on this globe has racial issues. Is South Africa safe? Like any place in the world, it depends on where you, the time of day (or night), how you're dressed, how you act, etc. There are many places in the US which are more dangerous than many places in South Africa.

I've been to virtually every province of South Africa, mostly in rural areas, but a few cities and towns as well. I have a number of friends there as well. I have never felt particularly unsafe, and they've told me they don't feel particularly unsafe. This doesn't mean that there aren't people who would target farmers in rural areas, but I don't think the facts bear out that white farmers live in fear of their lives.

Now, if I was a farmer in South Africa and the US offered permanent residency to me and my family, help with resettlement, etc., would I take it up? Probably, but for economic reasons, not for reasons of safety.

It's like all over the world: Politics!
Not the rural people kill rural farmers in africa, no, those killers are send from some backyard specialist, sowing trouble and aim for political effects. It's allways about land and elections! Legislation after legislation. Whole southern africa would be a paradise without polticians!

And yes, I think, if You are aware and careful about Yourself, Your baggage and Your wife's leaving out the jogging round through town after 10 pm, there won't be much trouble.
Besides, in the 1990's, Newzealand and Australia had also a programm, luring away white african farmers from southern africa to their countries, because of their knowledge by farming in arid land.

??? Cabeza de Vaca from Spain was in Texas in 1528 - 1536. Some Spanish conquistadors led by Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda may have wandered around in Texas in 1519, but that is a bit less clear. Who from England was here before that?

As a teenager I left the Episcopal church (with my WW2 Lt Col father) after they gave a few million
to Jane Fonda to take to North Vietnam and if her WW2 Navy Lt father, who was well connected in 1968 she would have been tried for treason!
The Episcopal Church has been a socialist/communist entity for 65 years! And what they have helped immigrate into America and Europe from Africa isn't oppressed (black or white) farmers but post apartheid socialists/communists. And to help them do that the US government has given them at least
$50 million/year for 3 decades, taxpayers money!

We had numerous SA doctors in the small town I grew up. At one point the had asked another couple to go on a weekend getaway together, but the other couple had work to do around their farm. The reply was “just get the blacks to do it.” The locals had to remind them “ In Canada, we are the blacks.”

There’s a reason why we Asians & Africans will never become developed countries. We love to blame white people for all of our problems.

Take the Indian subcontinent, for instance. The British & Portuguese stopped colonizing us 78 years ago, but for some reason… our politicians still blame them for the problems that we face today (acid attacks on women, honor killings, religious based hate crimes, child marriages, pedophilia, embezzlement in public & private sectors, poaching, deforestation, mass corruption, etc).

Of course, rather than step up to improve the country… its’s obviously far easier to just blame the “Cruel White Man”.

When I was campaigning for my first term as MP (Member of Parliament), I raised this issue during a public rally. My opposition spun my words into “Habib considers white people to be superior to Bengalis”.

A population with a low IQ & little education combined with an excuse to be able to point fingers at colonial administrations of the past… speaks disastrous results for any country’s future.
