Thus far, all the factory ammunition I have tried have fired patterns rather than groups. I'll send it off to try and have a load worked up. Most discouraging thing is that I haven't found anything that the individual barrels like either. 2 MOA from each barrel is pretty much the best I have managed (and six - inches apart at 100 meters).

When you first posted pictures, I sent them to several double gun experts/gunsmiths in this country and none knew about it. I could probably ship just the barrels to a German smith without all the export import nonsense.
Now you need a gunsmith...View attachment 324273 View attachment 324274
Did'nt you want to visit Germany again, long since?

No offense intended @HWL, but it is my opinion that he does not need a gunsmith. When you first posted pictures, I sent them to several double gun experts/gunsmiths in this country and none knew about it. This is a BRAND NEW rifle.
For the price paid for a VC double and the reputation they have, it should group with factory ammo.
If not, VC should be the ones taking charge of the corrections needed at no additional cost to @Red Leg.
I currently own several double rifles and have been shooting them since the late eighties. My best rifles shoot composite 2.5” four-shot LxR/LxR groups at 100 meters. With my S2 I have killed buffalo very close, a waterbuck at well over 200 meters, and lots of stuff between. Yes, I know how to shoot one and sight it in properly. To date, I have not found a factory load that is remotely regulated which makes sighting in a non-starter.I totally agree with BeeMau. Please I do not mean to offend you but have you eliminated yourself from the equation? Has someone else who is use to doubles tried shooting the rifle? Possibly in this thread you described how you are shooting the rifle. Off hand, sticks, bench? If you are familiar with Wrights book "shooting the British double rifle" it shows a stand up shooting bench for double rifle. When I use to have to work up a load I built one of those benches and it worked much better than sticks or off hand.
We have a repeat client who shoots a VC over under .450-.400 and it shoots and he shoots 100%
Absolutely none taken. Please I met to offense, I know that when I have a problem I try to take everything especially the human factor out of the equation. Like you, I have been shooting a double since the early 80s. I have always considered myself a good shot with a double, but for some reason I cannot shoot my wife's .450-400 Heym well? She shoots it excellent, the fit seems right it comes to the eye. I suspect that it is something with the sights that causes me a problem or maybe it is the 74 year old eyes?
I don’t mess with reloading any longer, but I have a good friend who does it for a living, including deciphering double rifle loads. He’ll get a try at it next.
Been in those minefields for nearly forty years.Entering the minefield of Double Rifles......
Good luck....

Beautiful.
What would men be without their toys?
And you'll find that an o/u double is a better to shoot than the classic one.
It's not really allowed to say that here, you know a minefield .
A Schmidt and Bender on ?
