Buddy and I are planning our first elk hunt in 2014. Looking for a guaranteed tag, high shot %, guided hunt. My research indicates that it will be on private land and Colorado and New Mexico are good possibilties. Based on our research so far, it seems that a high % hunt for a 300+ bull is going to run north of $10,000. A high % hunt for a 5x5 or 6x6 in the 250-280 range can be done for $6,000 - $8,000. While neither of us care whether we are in the record book, we do want to mount out trophies and don't want the elk equivalent of a "scrub rack 8 point whitetail" that we are familiar with here in the Ozarks. Just looking for some education from someone more experienced. Can anyone post or send me pics of what a 250 class bull looks like, maybe a 280 and a 300? We are having a hard time deciding which hunt we need to spring for.

This two bulls are around 320 to 330 new mexico public land. You can put in for draw if you get luck will save some money. If not you can buy a landowner tag from 1500 to 6500 plus lics fees. You do not need to spend over 2000 on landowner tag if you want a low 300 class bull. You can do a hunt in new mexico guided with buying a landeronwer tag for 6500 to 8000.Better draw odds with archery then muzzy last rifle odds wise.I will help you out with more info if you like.Send me a PM on here or email me a capwe6@aol.com

Custom you see either of those bulls in the pictures billc shared, shoot!

Thanks, billc. Brickburn is right, those bulls are awesome in my book!

Yes both great bulls and very proud of my son taking them.Last year we went for broke passed on 1 like those and a few smaller for a gaint.Had a 350 type bull coming in hunted him for the last 3 days of of the season.Had him at about 500yds coming in when a plane flew over the herd very low and they all spooked then they caught are wind and last we seen they may still be running now.lol Hoping to be chasing those big bulls again this year.

U can get a gila 16d tag in nm for $6500 and that is our most coveted tag. My guide then charges $2500/hunter fully guided and a 330 bull is about the least i would shoot. In unit 15 tags run $3500 and 330 isnt too hard to find. However im a local and know where the bulls are and will be hunting 3 different bulls over 390. I can probably kill a 350 on any given day of the unit 15 late muzzy hunt. In addition unit 34 nm tags run about !3500 and ive never had problems finding 330 bulls. Last year i passed bulls up to 360 in unit 34 and quit hunting day 2 of my hunt as the effects of the drought were obvious. Utah 330 bulls will run u around $15000 but that state sucks to hunt in. U might look at mescalero apache indian rez in nm. Hu t is $15,000 and the experience is next to none. 370 bulls are definitely a possibility.

Tap is correct, they are selling too many tags in UT and the prices are higher. I like NM too, especially if you draw a tag!

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
