I just received my tanned elephant skin from Zimbabwe and it is beautiful. I would like to make a leather jacket out of it. Anybody know of a company that will do this. I found a few sites on the web in India but I am really not sure about mailing my skins over there. Thanks for your help. I will look around SCI in Reno and see if I can find something also.

I'm not sure about costs or anything with providing your own skins but here is a web address to a place in Texas, Meyer Custom Boots, hope this helps!

Rastaman, A friend of mine had an Elephant skin jacket made by USA FOXX & Furs, check out their website at www.usafoxx.com. He supplied his Elephant skin and paid around $700 (a few years back) to have a custom made jacket. The only draw back, it is seriously heavy... You can really get a good work out while wearing it.

I have a pair of elephant skin boots that I bout sometime in 1990 or 1991. Cleaned up and polished they look like the day I bought them. Ele hide is virtually indestructible.

Elephant Leather Jacket

Ive run out of options and thought someone on here might be a help. I have a pile of Elephant skin, tanned brown, and wanted to make a leather jacket. I took the skin to teh SCI show and most vendors in this speciality declined saying that the skin was too thick to work with their equipment, except one guy who said he could do it. Now this guy has said he cant because its too thick and asked me to send it to a tannery to split it or thin it. The guy at the tannery, who I know pretty well, has received the leather and says its already very thin and I just need to find someone to handle this type of material so ....I am back at square one.

does anyone know of a company that can work with this material and make me a jacket out of my elephant skin? thanks for your help

R.

Rastaman, I am not sure if you saw my post (see above) and I don't know if you have contacted these people yet but it might be worth your while as I know they have done it before. Keep us posted if you find someone.

If anyone has any recommendations for Rastaman please chime in.

Thanks Jerome, I had forgot about my previous post. You really are on top of your webmaster game!!

I don't know if I'm that on top of things however a question about an Elephant skin jacket is pretty memorable... If you can't find someone to do a jacket for you, have you thought of using it to upholster a nice chair or two. I have seen it a few times and was really impressed. At least if you do a chair you won't have to lug it around on your back! :ballchain:

I think that upholstering a chair is a very great idea! Wish I had thought of that idea.

I am coming to the same conclusion. It might be too heavy to really use as a jacket, but it would look nice. A few chairs might be the right idea.

thanks. I just received a briefcase and bag made by those guys and they are both beautiful. Jared was very good to work with and I would definitely recomend them.

I had company in Colorado do a jacket and some belts and Loveless boots did some boots and hippo shoes. Ive just about used up a whole hippo and elephant at this point!!!

Any pictures of those chairs?

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
