With temperatures soaring over 100°F today, we decided to head out early. By 4 AM, we were on our way, and by 5 AM, we were settled in a good spot, glassing for gemsbuck.
Less than 30 minutes later, we spotted a group of about 40 gemsbuck on the opposite ridge. After some careful planning and a well-executed stalk, we got within a comfortable shooting distance of this beautiful gemsbuck bull, standing at five hundred and thirty (530) meters from us. Our client was confident at the distance and proceed to take his first shot. Our clients first shot was a hit, a touch further back on the bull but still a good hit. To our surprise the tough bull simply shrugged it off and took a few steps forward. The second shot, however, landed perfectly, bringing this old bull to a quick demise.
The .300 Win Mag with a 200-grain Hornady round did its job!
Shortly after, we began our journey back to camp, we ran into this stunning springbuck ram—an opportunity we just couldn’t pass up!
