DSC Update from the CEO

Tear down or no tear down the bottom line was KBH told DSC they could not be accommodated. McCanna says others were told the same a relocated. He admits that one of the reasons DSC wound up in Atlanta was they didn’t move fast enough and other locations in Texas were booked up in some cases by the other groups displaced from KBH.

He also makes clear that KBH came back to them ask said plans had changed but DSC had just signed the Atlanta contract and weren’t able to get out of it. I assume that’s when TTHA booked KBH.

As a member and consumer I’m not going to get bogged down in how KBH is doing their renovation—tear down vs stages. But I believe that they told DSC that they couldn’t be accommodated and that triggered the series of events that led to Atlanta.

What I most care about is how DSC plans to put money toward conservation and how they are going to raise that money. I am pleased that what I heard in the podcast is a plan. It may not work but it is an effort to serve their members and customers in a way that furthers the mission of conservation.

Agreed.

I retired in DC, still stuck here, traffic and the mass of humanity would be prohibitive in the immediate area. West of DC....possibilities exist and are nearby Dulles Airport.

The event center near Dulles where they do TREXPO East might could work if DSC shrank a good bit.. but there aren’t adjacent hotels.. everyone would be driving in each day…

But if they thought there was a revolt over ATL they definitely don’t want to try DC… between the anti gun mobs of NoVA and DC metro, the density of the population, protest groups that would LOVE for a hunting expo to come to town, etc. it would be a complete and total shit show…

I never thought about all the activists. I’m far enough west we live by God, family, guns. Over the last 20 years I have only seen 1 activist at the Outdoor show in Harrisburg, PA and that was when Phill Roberson was preaching.

If my memory is correct, the prior CEO said the reason they did not do 2025 in Dallas was the loading area would be unavailable and they that was why DSC had to move for 2025 even though KBH would be available for 2025,

All I can say is the loading area was most definitely available for the TTHA show.

But that doesn’t mean they weren’t told it wouldn’t be available two years ago when they made the decision. Everyone needs to stop comparing what KBH looked like two months ago with what DSC was told it would look like tow years ago. The only information they had when they made the decision was what they were told.

That is true, didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. Only that one thing didn’t match the other as seems to be the case with many of the details.

I was told today by an SCI chapter VP that SCI is using TTHA as a placeholder in Dallas until their contract in Nashville runs out. When it does, then SCI will hold their full show at KBH.

If true, which I doubt, that would be the end of DSC. I could certainly see SCI moving to San Antonio after Nashville.

Selfishly, I hope
They stay in Nashville

That would be directly targeting DSC in a negative way and I would be resigning my SCI membership and ending the annual sponsorship I do for the chapter here. There is not reason to do that other than trying to negatively impact DSC and that’s bad for conservation.

I seriously doubt that it’s true… it would actually be a poor business move on SCIs part…

Nashville is already incredibly successful.. and TTHA already holds a five year contract at KBHCC and is growing..

Why shut down a successful TTHA and move a successful SCI?

DSC is already somewhat blocked from KBHCC unless they get very creative..

There’s no financial reason to make that sort of move.. and it doesn’t make much operational sense either..

TTHA is a subsidiary of SCI, right? Seems to me the deed has already been done.

That’s my point.

SCI, through TTHA, already “owns” KBHCC…

No need to move SCI to DFW.. they have a wildly successful venue in Nashville, and they’re in the process of building a second show that they anticipate being successful in DFW already…

If they leave Nashville, it becomes open to DSC…

The smart move is to stay, enjoy the success, and build TTHA to cater to the TX market that DSC left behind with the move to ATL…

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
