Double Tuskless Charge

Would appreciate some discussion on these questions.

Great first shot by the hunter, but without the go ahead from the PH makes me wonder whether the PH was waiting to determine whether it was a real charge requiring self-defense shots?
I am pretty sure the PH needs or wants the client to shoot first because there is more red tape when the PH shoots first. Pretty much a rule that doesn’t make common sense.

I think it’s actually the opposite. Once the PH opens fire it’s on. But most don’t want a trigger happy client getting scared and blazing away at an illegal animal.

All tongue in cheek....but here is the budget for you of vehicles to hide behind for your next safari.
Low end first:
1. Moped
2. Reliant Robin:X3:
3.Mark1 Land rover with dodgy carburettor o_O

Not sure what the tipping guide would be for this hunt but im sure the fallas here will sort it:ROFLMAO:
Nope, I’m a sizable lad. Need more protection than these.

This. I want this. Reminds me of my Def Leppard tshirt as a teen.

My tuskless hunt in Zimbabwe, the PH told me that if charged he needed to shoot first for self defense then I could join in.

I was also told that if a warning shot was needed he would yell for it and I was to fire over its head; because I had a double .470 and he was carrying a bolt action .458Lott.

This is exactly the instruction I was given too. Once the PH fired it was weapons free and start throwing lead!

Everything has proved itself perfectly here: the client, the PH, and the operator. However, I would highlight the operator. He didn't have a gun, but he didn't run away and recorded a great video. Still, a rifle in hand gives any person confidence, even if he is an unimportant shooter. But if in the hands of a movie camera?

More than one person has been scribbled because they were looking through the view find only to look up with maybe there last thought of “Wow this is great so clos…..”!:sick:o_O

He built a name and reputation for himself and likes to specialize in big bulls with the days he hunts. He has that option now. His company still organizes a lot of tuskless hunts. If a past client he guided asked him to guide a tuskless I’m sure he would.
He just won't tell Mrs C!

Was Marty the hunter?

Not sure he is spry enough to be doing that hunt….

My thoughts too. I couldn’t imagine tripping in a situation like that but he still got a shot off and appears calm. Interesting to see Buzz look down and realize what happened before shooting the 2nd cow. It’s also incredible the camera man doesn’t flinch and gets that footage.
Agreed, he kept fighting!

Agreed. But having empirical video evidence is one step better.

Well done to all involved. That tuskless took three to the head and wasn't done. Anyone rethinking the double vs magazine rifle because of this?
This thought occurred to me as well, but if I'd had bolt gun in Marty's situation I think it would have been difficult to take a second shot. I mean you've already fallen over, there is giant pissed off elephant running at you, seems like the double was a good choice.

Wow awesome video! Interesting, it seems obvious the hunter made a perfect brain shot on the one with tusk that charged. Buzz looks to have shot too low on his two first shots at the tuskless...lol...he needs to go view his awesome must watch hunting the African elephant!

I read an older thread that mentioned you having some 9.3x64 brass. Do you still have some? I am looking for 100 pcs, maybe 200.
