Double Tuskless Charge

Great example of why you have a PH with you. I know both of the PH's in the two videos. Both are pros and know their stuff.
Without either, there would be dead hunters scattered about in bits and pieces.

My PH instructed my wife and I, When I tell you to back out; turn around and go. Do not trip. Do not keep looking back. Just go.

So on one of these stalks a cheeky cow came at us and here comes Dalton telling us to turn and go.

My wife turns, her toe goes under a root and she falls. I turn back towards her and Dalton stops to guard us until she is back on her feet and we all continue the quick retreat.

Tuskless Elephant are no joke. And man. Now after all these talk. Now I want to immediately go back to hunt them.

The rush. Chasing that rush. Damn that sounds good.

It's fun to take down big bodied bulls and ivory but I have yet to find anything like a tuskless hunt for excitement. They are usually with the rest of the cows and those are fearsome creatures. I want to chase them again.

Great first shot by Marty on the first charge. They were both a bit lucky on the second as Buzz missed the brain with both shots and Mary was on the ground. It was great work by him to get off his last shot from the ground because it appears that turned the cow.

I am definitely going tuskless hunting again! On my first tuskless hunt we saw many, many elephant but not one tuskless cow the entire safari.

I had almost the same experience as you! Well I did see one tuskless at dusk on the last day but it was with a baby so not the right thing to shoot it. Cant wait to get back!

This hunt actually took place in 2022, Dan Macdonald filmed the hunt. I was sharing camp with Marty at the time….that helped me make up my mind that I would stick to hunting bulls instead of cows in the future.
I have to ask what was the atmosphere in camp like that night? Very quiet reflecting on how close they came or drinks and storytelling reliving the day?

Videos like this make my tiny, tiny chipmunk nads crawl deep inside and hide behind my bladder.

Last year I was 10 yds away from getting run over by a nilgai, and that was exciting enough. Not a charge, he just popped out of a dry canal at the same time I was walking by with only a bow in my hands.

I DO want to hunt DG someday, but distance is my friend. And shooting from behind a vehicle. With the engine running.

All tongue in cheek....but here is the budget for you of vehicles to hide behind for your next safari.
Low end first:
1. Moped
2. Reliant Robin:X3:
3.Mark1 Land rover with dodgy carburettor o_O

Not sure what the tipping guide would be for this hunt but im sure the fallas here will sort it:ROFLMAO:

yep that was badass…. Let’s not lie we all wish to experience that same adventure….
Yes it was and to experience it would be bad ass. Well to experience it with out the trip and fall would be bad ass.

Marty was a cool customer. He fired from the ground. His shot on the first charge was great. A lot of people would have been amped up and unable to to make a shot from the ground after the first charge. He looked pretty calm and collected in post shoot video.

I’m pretty sure you must be a Brit …. The Reliant Robin gives it away. I can’t imagine they would be that popular in the Deep South
I can’t help but think of Jeremy Clarkson driving them round Rotherham on Top Gear …. Absolutely hilarious

Reminds me of my Honda Big Red ATC, except when it starts to go over, the Robin’s back wheel, doesn’t climb your leg, rip you off the machine and slam you to the ground.

It was more of a story telling session and Buzz swearing off hunting them (that didn’t last very long). Having the cameraman there was important because of the hoops the PH has to jump through when an ele is shot in self defense.

Seems like having a camera man while hunting (among other reasons) is almost like having a dashcam while driving now.

Makes a lot of sense in these cases.

Well that got western in a hurry. Glad nobody was badly injured.

Out of curiosity, since he was on a tuskless hunt and killed a tusked ele, how does that work? If there's quota, he filled it? Handled differently because it was a charge?

Does CMS eat the cost of the 2nd ele since it was a charge and they shot first? Client also shot, so does he split trophy cost?
Would appreciate some discussion on these questions.

Great first shot by the hunter, but without the go ahead from the PH makes me wonder whether the PH was waiting to determine whether it was a real charge requiring self-defense shots?
