Double rifles for buffalo

Heym told me it´s going to be ready November. I´m going to put on an Aimpoint micro on it. I have never used one before.

I would suggest a 1 MOA Trijicon. Sits a lot lower than Aimpoint and more important Heym has a mount plate for it.

I've shot buffalo with a .450-400, .450 no2, .500, .600. Just completed a hunt on a huge SA ranch and took two buffalo and a roan with an 1885 Rodda 4-bore double. Had to cancel my vacation in Zim due to COVID lockdowns so fly out Friday.
Did you use Black or Blue Dot? Was your gun barer happy to carry that cannon?

Hey congratulations.
I just logged on here to see if you had posted anything about your hunt.
the 4 Bore performed as expected I see.
Have a safe flight home

Robert: I used 120 grains of Blue Dot with a 1400 grains round ball for 1650 fps muzzle velocity measured by a Lab Radar. I brought some balls along with the hope or reloading with black powder here but it was not to be.
John: see you in a few days.

I will post a hunt report with photos when I get back home.
Cheers, gents.

Tanks have you perhaps got a picture of that Trijicon on the Heym? Someone told me the Trijicon has to use a picatiny base, which would make it unnecessarily high. Here is a picture of the Noblex on a Heym 89b using Heym's supplied base, very clean and low, but Noblex is now out of production.

Do you think a chap would be hunted down if he was to do this to a old beater English Double, as my eyes just aren't as good as the old days ?

I have had a few clients with them on their doubles but all have been modern rifles, I also just don't trust things/gadgets like this but sure is hard to beat Aimpoint type sights on some of my other work firearms !

Looks like the same base I am using for my Merkel, the doctor, noblex is the same as the Kahles sight.

You guys have got me so excited listening to your posts about wheels up, coming to Dande, coming to Save, coming to SA, it is almost too much to bear. That's cake enough, but the cherry would be a buffalo on the card, a big mean old daga boy. Now add doing it with a double! So who is going to join the 'daga boy double club'? If you pull that off you are invited to our Stanley Fire Pit in Harare for a single malt and cigar afternoon to share your heroic tale.

Would be on my way...but bit busy burning at moment....and the Chinese virus screwing things again as well...so have to postpone.....

Don't think I would ever join this fine club as I would rather spend money on more hunting than a double. Nothing against doubles but for the price of them I could get a lot of hunting.

But If I stumble upon a bargain or someone would be kind enough to give me one you betcha I will definitely enjoy it.

I'm also on the fence about this. I'd love a double, but for the price of one I can do two safari's (without flights/taxidermy)...

What a great offer! I'm afraid I won't qualify though. A daga boy is on my list when I get to Dande this Sept, but I'm using a bolt action rifle. A Kimber Caprivi in 458 Lott. What if I shoot him twice? Will that qualify?

I hope I am! Wednesday wheels up to SA to hunt with Tsala hunting Cape Buffalo and Nyala both with my new Chamblais 450-400 SxS DR!!!
How did your Chapuis 450/400 do on Cape buffalo? How did you like hunting with the rifle?

My thinking is exactly the same... Double rifle = 458 Lott + Elephant bull hunt

There are deals to be had from some that buy them and turn around and sell them after a trip to the range. I bought my Heym 88B .500 NE "used", if 12 rounds through it can be considered used, at a very reasonable price. At less than half the cost of an elephant bull hunt.

Next April for me taking the 416 double

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
