Double Rifle used in 1923 TV Series

My Quote function isn't working today... From Post #1;

"The action has "coin finish" and bolsters.
In Season 1, Episode 1 at the time of 2:10 one can see the rifle appears to be a Sabatti much like this one."

Okay guys, this isn't fair! If one subscribes to the Paramount Network which may be pretty darn hard if not in the USA or Canada, one can clearly see the side of the action at time 2:10 of Episode 1. There are no cocking indicators and really big bolsters. Further, the contours of where the action meets the stock are just like the Sabatti shown in the photo. Finally, while I don't know about every Merkel double ever produced, I have a 140AE in 375 H&H and it has a rather prominent and ugly wedge protruding past and between the muzzles. I wish they had used a Merkel!!!

I also was wondering what kind of rifle he uses. I agree it looks like a 375 H&H. The scalloped back of the action is similar to my Chapuis, but the rest of the action isn't. I'm not that familiar with Sabatti or Merkel. In 1923, a prosperous PH in Africa would probably have one of the London guns.

Yellowstone
1883
1923
Tulsa King

Almost anything produced by Taylor Sheridan is definitely worth watching!
Also try Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Dark, but more good work by Tyler Sheridan.

I think Spencer roaming Africa hunting dangerous game with a double rifle, while running from his WW1 PTSD, then having a stunning blonde Brit steal his thoughts.... is quite a nice break from my everyday office life. haha

To me it’s the way it was and still should be. You watch and wait for the other shoe to drop.

As someone who lives in Montana most of Yellowstone is like Dallas was in its day. Ranchers are not killing and fighting in modern times. Good show if you like action/ drama but not real.Scenery is nice.
Better by a long way is 1923 with Helen Mirren and Harrison ford. 1883 was excellent as well.

Always enjoy movies with firearms, sometimes just to catch the blunders. One of my favorites is Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven”. The line near the end “ he won’t sell us anymore 30-30s”. Movie takes place in the 1880s, 30-30 was not released until the 1894 Winchester.

Catching their blunders is fun.

But as for what firearms that the movies are using, I just like it when they are close to what actually was used.

The ones that are fun to catch are the old 30-30, using a M92 when it should be a 1873, cartridge wheel guns before cartridges were available. Model 36 Marlins way way before they even existed.

Then there are the bandits from Mexico where they have a bandoleer of 7x57 when they are packing lever action rifles.

I also loved it in The '50s Westerns where they take Winchester 92's strip the forend off it paint the receiver gold and play them off as if they were Henry rifles

At least they are trying to be accurate

Hey, Thank you for the video. I am really enjoying the series. Our internet is so bad here we can only download onto computer, then try to play. We have enjoyed Yellowstone, 1883 & now 1923.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
