Double Rifle 750 Nitro Express

Right here are the rules
.......you find the elephant you fire the rifle whichever one gets up first wins ...... seems fair to me don't you think ?

However Mr Bell is probably turning in his grave to think that he considered a 318 wr as a large calibre .......

pretty sure i read somewhere that Bell also used a 470 NE. so he wasnt entirely against bigger bores.

True I hear this story all the time ...I have a 318 wr double and I without reservation admit Mr Bell was a braver man than I ...I have dropped wildebeest and Kudu with it to face down a tuskless bitch of the bush..... shit where did I leave my 470 NE

Bell also wired the two triggers of his double (I thought it was a 450/400) together to try and equal some of the bigger rifles being used at the time. He worked out that 800gr in the wrong place didn't kill very well. Also it was very difficult to get get both barrels firing at exactly the same time. Usually one fired slightly before the other causing the second shot to hit high due to the recoil of the first shot lifting the barrels.

Here is Master Gunsmith Jerome Lanoue from Verney-Carron with a 700 Nitro Double Rifle.

I met Jerome a couple of years ago and found him to be an absolute gentleman.

His products were more than i could afford, but a 450-400 from his workshop may be the last rifle I ever buy.

I appreciate the brains and craft that went into that .750 despite the practical limitations. It looks magnificent.

There is a nice video online of a VC .700 in action in Mozambique.

Well gentlemen, I've looked that things over pretty closely, and as far as I can tell there are a couple parts missing! I didn't see any sign of the wagon wheels, or the tow bar, to hual that thing into battery for the artillery bombardment ! :D

I would dearly love to be present when he fires the first shot out of that double rifle, and even more so if he happens to get a double discharge!

In addition, I'd also suggest a search party, medical team and ambulance in close attendance!!

The search party to locate and retrieve his shoulder post firing. The medical team to apply first aid and stabilise the patient. And lastly, the ambulance to get him to a hospital PDQ!!!

Jeez! THAT is one HECK of a rifle!!!

I looked at the 700 NE at the show. If I wasn’t mistaking I believe it was around 18 lbs!?

Interesting what my travel-luggage -insurance would say ,when I report this double as lost.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
