Hi, I'm very new here like many others trying to learn as much as possible prior to locating a new rifle. I found lots of great info on the site prior to joining, but unfortunately I couldn't locate the following questions and information. That might be because the questions are ridiculous, or maybe I'm just not good at locating them in the prior posts. Here is the story, I will be joining a group of friends on a South Africa hunt in approximately one year, this will be my first hunt out of the US. They have hunted at the location many times and know the location well, and to my advantage have documented extensively all their prior kills and distances. Due to the lack of cover in the particular region many shots are taken at 150, 200 yards, and some out to 310 yards on plains game. During the trip I plan on hunting various plains game with the very real possibility I'll want to pursue a buffalo. I would like to attempt this hunt with a double rifle in .375 flanged, but when I saw the distances some of these animals are being taken at I began to question my plans. While researching the distances a double rifle can be used for, one gentleman offered the following advice that made sense and I wanted to see what you fine folks had to say about it. Have a double rifle built and regulated for 100 meters at the factory with a scope, once delivered purchase a second scope and sight in one barrel to whatever distance I think will be needed. The thought was the hunt would be attempted with the 100 meter setup, but if distance was needed the rifle could become a fancy single shot out to the 200 plus yards.

go order the chapuis and have them supply and fit the scope as well. have them mount it using claw mounts, and make sure they send you photos of the regulation targets, and also targets using the scope at 100 and 150yds before they ship it. if you arent happy tell them how you want it to shoot, as there is no reason a double with a scope cant be made to shoot so you can use the scope for both barrels. also if the budget runs to it order a set of 20 or 12 bore shotgun barrels for it. my 9.3 has 20 bore barrels as well and they come in handy for a bit of bird shooting on the side. its a handy package as most dont bother with a shotgun ,but this takes up hardly any extra space. i would happily hunt with just my 9.3 and 470 doubles, so what are you waiting for get that order in!!!
