Discontinued Product Frustration

  • Left-handed Winchester Model 70's
  • Nice XXL hats. If the tag says "One Size Fits All", they don't mean me. When I find one I like that fits, I always buy multiples.
  • Swarovski 1-6x24 EE. Generous eye relief is often a priority in a scope purchase.
  • Rugged fixed scopes especially in the lower power ranges. I like my simple Leupold Big Bore.

LEUPOLD SCOUT SCOPES, NEED THEM FOR FORWARD MOUNT ON LEVERGUNS. DISCONTINUED, SAW ONE ON EBAY A DAY OR TWO AGO FOR $2K!

Not an item truly discontinued but custom Russell boots. They don’t build to fit anymore.

LL Bean Briar Glove. Best wing shooting glove ever. I had my last pair repaired so many times I don’t know how they held together at the end. Well I guess they eventually didn’t.

Original filson waxed cotton caps.

B&P high pheasant 2 1/2 inch shotgun shells.

Jeans without spandex!

Owning a farm, don’t get me started. Diesel equipment without computers and emission controls that decrease horsepower for astronomically more money.

Gloss scopes
Try round house jeans. If they’re like their overhauls they’re great.
Or prison blues jeans.

I am turning into a product scavenger and seem to push the “buy it now” button as quickly as I can now.

I am getting to the point of just buying multiples whenever I like something (even when I don't need mutiples).

Many products that I buy are being discontinued and it is REALLY frustrating.

For example, over just the last four-five weeks I have discovered that all the following products are no longer available:

1. Kynoch Snap Caps (per Trader Keith)
2. Alliant Reloder powders (per Gun Stop)
3. S. W. Silver & Co. recoil pads (per Foxtrot)
4. Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24 30mm tube scopes with L4AIF reticle (per Swarovski rep).

Sadly, our slice of the hunting/shooting market must really be small and shrinking.
I hear you. When I find a product I really like I am forced to buy multiples or a year later it's gone from the earth! One I am still mad about not buying a dozen of was the Sitka ultra lightweight wool liner gloves. They were so thin you could put them under any glove. NO ONE makes a similar product today. All the "liner" gloves out there are 3 times thicker. Rant off.
That reminds me, I need to check EBay again!

Like this one? Circa 1986 and still going strong.

That’s awesome but it’s the hat not the cap. I have trouble shooting shotguns with the full brim for some reason. I love the caps. I still have one in wetland camo that’s 20 years old but my tan one I used for everything but waterfowl was lost.

They make a stupid high crown style now that looks ridiculous.

This is the closest they have but the crown just isn’t the same.

I picked up a tan Beretta waxed canvas ball cap a few years ago and absolutely love it. High quality as well. I picked up another one for my father in olive, he loves it too.

I saw a beretta one I really liked a few years ago but I still had my Filson at the time and didn’t buy it. Haven’t seen another one.

I had a fantastic waxed cotton Blaser version that I loved. It went overboard in a swamp in Argentina in 2009. Should have been able to pick it up easily but I was in a rowboat being towed by a gaucho on a horse and he either couldn’t hear be hollering for him to stop or didn’t understand my poor attempt at Spanish.

CDS Leupold for sure. Had dial customized for cheap, readily available, accurate, ammo - then, manufacturer discontinued. Luckily I anticipated this very thing and stockpiled 3 lifetimes of ammo!!

.338 caliber 225 grain Swift A-Frame bullets are about nonexistent.

I made several batches of AH hats for the SCI get together, and have one or two spares.

What do you have to trade? :E Hmmm:
I have money to trade.

Oh @franzfmdavis

You’re still a relatively young man. When you’re my age, you’ll be burning with frustration at the number of good things you’ll see cease production.

Here are some of mine:
Eley Alphamax shotgun shells
Big Bore Nosler Partition bullets
Most shotguns with fixed chokes
BRNO ZKK Series rifles
Parker Hale rifles
BSA firearms
English made Webley & Scott firearms
The 175Gr Winchester Super X soft point loading for the 7x57mm Mauser
Midland Gun Co. firearms
W W Greener firearms
Barnes Original bullets in big bore calibers

The list could go on & on…

P.S: The European Union confirmed last month that within three years, they’ll be banning use of all lead hunting ammunition (for both rifles & shotguns). So if anybody has a favorite European lead cored rifle bullet or lead shotgun shell… I highly recommend stockpiling before production ceases completely.

Left handed Winchester M70 rifles.
TBBC ammo loaded by Federal in calibers smaller than 416 to include 375H&H, 35 Whelen and 300 Win Mag. Fortunately I’ve procured enough in those calibers to last me for a long time.

Check out Arcteryx too. They make a nice wool liner glove that is thin and light! Here is a pic of the pair I have:

For me, it is 100% cotton hunting shirts that Orvis and Cabelas used to market.

I regretfully agree :/. The frustration has only increased with age.

Perhaps I should start a thread to notify the group of information we receive about discontinued things?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!
