Delta just cancelled June 1 ATL to JNB flight

didnt biden do a travel ban to south africa?
That would not pass constitutional muster, except maybe during time of war.
And that would including returning from S.A. Look what got shot down under President Trump, for non-citizens, but legal US residents.

Travel agent just advised me that Delta cancelled ATL to JNB flight that was scheduled to start June 1st.
Through what date?

Not the news I wanted to hear, but thanks for the heads up. Hopefully Delta has the flight up and running come Oct or it will be another Africa-less year for us again.
Why? They just fly through Amsterdam to JNB. It is a pain yes but what we will do if we have to come July.

It looks like a one week extension of the cancellation only. The 2nd week of June is open ATL-JNB nonstop.
Take a breath people!

$2700? I've been contemplating a Safari next year to SA and am adding up the total for the trip including airfare. I was figuring on $1500 for the flight, but this blows that out of the water!
Next year will be doable for that price.

What was the reason for canceling? COVID or just didn’t sell enough seats?
SA citizens banned from coming to US lowers flight load and this cancellations.

When I booked my flights way back in 2015 Delta was anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 more expensive than any other airline.

It looks like they still are.
They are more but normally not that much. They are also the fastest way to Africa. By next year prices will normalize and much competition has been added to the market with United. Plus who knows SAA may be up and running next year adding more price pressure on Delta.

I fly out of Dulles (IAD). I am seeing flights in September for 975.00 coach, 2950 business with United.
Wow! That's quite a chasm between those two fares. Hope you get an additional bag of crackers in business class?

I haven’t booked tickets yet for a July Safari. I need to get to Windhoek from minneapolis. I’m so excited to travel again that I’m less concerned about what the itinerary looks like. Last trip was through joburg, but now it looks like I will try Ethiopian air. My wife and kids had hoped to leave before me and hang out in Europe for a few days, but it seems that is neither possible nor prudent. I’m working with Gracy travel and will be curious to see what they suggest. My PH says to fly Ethiopian.

Insanity! Not to armed hijack this thread, but my brother in law went to Mexico a few weeks ago. His Covid "test" was a fever check in the hotel (not at the airport) before returning to the US. Really! How many of those tens of thousands Spring breakers returning from Mexico have spread the virus since returning? Meanwhile, back in the land of STUPID, the restaurants here are sitting people every other table, but you can sit shoulder to shoulder at the bar WITHOUT a mask! The schools here are back to full in school learning, but the open air shooting range where I need to qualify for my CCW renewal Is CLOSED! Stupid is as stupid does!
Last summer, my daughter moved from California to Minnesota; I helped them and drove a car for them. Stopped along the way; Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, But
CUSTER BATTLE FIELD was closed!!! A field inthe middle of a prairie CLOSED.

Also, I hear parts of the Appalaichian Trail are closed???

The Ethiopian Air connection to Windhoek seems to be a very tight connection in and out, especially with firearms. Would truly like to hear from anyone regarding their experience with their trip, and any issues with the tight connection..

That’s because the prairie dogs that now inhabit the battlefield may be carriers of the Covid virus. You’d be safer going to a packed bar in Deadwood and having a beer!

The bigger problem is the people have proven that if you don't have someone watching over them that they will destroy a pristine environment such as the parks or grasslands.

I saw it last summer as campers destroyed areas. Trash was left all over and they managed to spray paint canyon walls with their names and or loves. Stuff that will never come off completely.

Overall if they are not watched over there are a lot of trashy people in the human race.

Very true!

@Areaonereal. I traveled Ethiopian Air last November to Windhoek and was concerned about short connection times both coming and going. We had no issues as there was an Ethiopian gate agent, who had our names for those with firearms, who meet us as we deplaned in Addis Ababa. He escorted us the through the rifle inspection, customs and boarding the Windhoek flight. They actually held this flight for approximately 15 minutes for 2 of us. The same on the return flight. It seemed chaotic at times but we had no issues. Makes sure you have extra copies of your passport and 4457 forms. Good luck.

I just booked through United - Dallas to Newark, to Joburg. Had an alert that the airline not have permission to fly then.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
