Delta DL200 September 21, 2024

I swore off Delta after 3 terrible experiences.

They left my rifle in France and couldn't figure out how to get it out of Customs hold since I was not there to watch them check the serial number- a ridiculous waste of everyone's time. Solutions recommended - fly back to Atlanta at my cost or have them shipped to Customs in El Paso. That solution cost me $200 freight plus a 400 mi drive to get my rifle. No compensation nor even an apology from Delta.

On a trip to Uganda they left my rifles and clothes in Atlanta. Got the rifles about 4 days later but my clothes didn't show up for 12 days. Again, not even an apology much less compensation.

Trip to CAR booked thru Delta. Flight to Amsterdam canceled due to issue with water pump in the latrines. I can understand that. Next day flew to Houston and caught a flight to Amsterdam. Needless to say, arrival is delayed one day. You guessed it, no luggage, no apology, no compensation.

Now I fly on United out of Newark. 3 tips so far without any issues. I've got a boat load of Delta miles if anybody wants them.

You can see that automation has hollowed out Delta’s customer experience. If all goes well , then the system works . If something goes wrong the people aren’t there to help. As far as an apology goes ; you need to forget about that.

Ricky and I leave on Sept 20 for our hunt with John X in the eastern Cape of South Africa. After examining our alternatives we have decided to go with Delta again. Bozeman to Atlanta and then to Joberg . Overnight at Africa Sky , then on to port Elizabeth.
We will be on a 10 day hunt. Ricky is after buffalo, roan , lechwe and springbuck. I am hunting black wildebeest, springbuck, lechwe, and the elusive bushbuck.
After last years Delta debacle we are rolling the dice again.
My trusty 280AI is ringing steel out to 400 yards and I am excited to go again.
I will report back when we return.

Good luck. Flawless DL200 flight this past June. Unfortunately they cancelled my 201 flight back home but they did a good job of rerouting me home through London

Rick, hope it all goes well this year, look forward to a report on how you did. We’ll have to get together after you return

Just did the Dl200 and Dl201 route, all flight’s left on time and arrived early. I did notice Dl201 was canceled on the 22nd, never heard why.
201 that we arrived on this morning was a rough flight. Bounced from take off in Jo-burg until around 3/4 way across the Atlantic.
One thing to remember, you will have another security check at the gate, before boarding 201 and they will not allow water bottles/ drinks even though they are purchased after passing through the main security/magnatometer screening . I had vaguely remember this but bought a $6 water to have on the plane, Drank the whole thing while waiting on line again to be screened.
