DEET with sunglasses and watch straps

Go to your local Brussels Wal Mart. OR, order it off Amazon.

Closest I found is this:

I had never heard of permethrin either, before AH… still no clue where I can buy the solution to drench my clothes in.
+1. I too had never heard of it before reading about it on AH and people using it in Africa. I hunt big game or pheasants here usually after multiple freezes have occurred and there's no mosquitos or ticks anywhere to be found. When hunting doves here in Sept., or camping in the summer, I just use DEET on my clothes and skin, mainly for mosquitos. Permethrin is nice, because it bonds to the fabric's molecules and will still be effective after up to six washes in the washing machine. I think in potential tick country, it's the way to go, but you still have to use DEET or something similar on your skin.

If you are somewhere other than the US you might want to go down to a farm supply store and see what they have for dipping cows and sheep to keep the biting insects off of them. They may have it in concentrate that you will then have to dilute way down to spray on your clothing.

Here is what Amazon has here in the US.

I bought my permethrin at the farm store in concentrate and dilute it to the same level as the store bought stuff.
Most of the time 40% deet keeps the ticks off of me.

Buy it at Tractor Supply as well. During bow season in south Texas, I dilute and spray it on all my gear. Also great for fleas in the yard. But don't use if you have cats or near a pond. As for Deet, I ruined a very nice Suunto dive watch years in Mexico with it. Had no idea it eats clear coat on paint. Thanks for the tip @thriller. On a side note, on my first trip to Africa back in 83 their was spray can of DDT next to the bed.

If you do find it in concentrate the store bought Permithin in the spray bottles only contains 0.5%Permithin and 99.5% inert ingredients or water.

So a little bit goes a very long ways.

I'm going to take a look the next time I'm at Tractor Supply. Much less expensive than the Sawyer stuff I buy.

My store had sawyer, for $7-8 a bottle, I walked back to the animal health section and bought 8 ounces of concentrate for $10
I saw gallon containers of 13% for $60 while the Sawyer 1% is $20 for 24 oz. Buying the concentrate from now on.

Get a jug of permethrin SFR.
I use it every day. Mix your own an keep it in a spray bottle. Works on everything from chiggers to yellow jacket nests.
Thermacells are required for deer stands here in South Carolina.

Deet is an excellent paint remover.

GF has been using this stuff around the kennel to keep the flies down, so I mixed some up at a 0.1-.2% solution to test drive on a couple shirts I wear dove hunting. Is this the same, or similar, stuff you guys have been using? Mostly trying to keep the mosquitoes at bay, we don't have a big problem with ticks around here.

Do you spray the diluted mixture on your clothes, or mix up a tubful and dip the clothes? Do you dry them in the air or in the dryer?

I spray diluted (0.5%) mix on my clothes and let it air dry for a couple of days in the garage. Wife says she can't stand the smell of it when the clothes are wet, but when they dry it's fine. I've never used the dryer because coating the inside of it with permethrin is of little use...and I'm not sure how heat would change the results. I've also never soaked clothes in a bag, just sprayed and had excellent results.

My (US Army) friend has soaked his clothes in a bag with 2% concentrate and air dried it. I believe it was for the Ranger Qualification School, but in any case he also air dried his clothes. Sawyer Permethrin that is sold in stores is 0.5% so he was using it at 4x the normal concentration levels. I suppose Army Ranger ticks are 4x tougher than regular ticks. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Thank you. I have the Sawyer's stuff, but may drop by Tractor Supply or the local farm store to get the concentrate.

I’ve been using the sawyer’s stuff for the past few years. The shooting range I go to is tick central. I have two sets of clothes just for the range I spray. Shoes, socks, shorts and shorts. Since I began doing this: no ticks. For mosquitoes and other little biting bugs, I use Cutters with DEET.
iI’m going to have to visit Tractor Supply for the concentrate… only five blocks away.

I too have ruined sunglasses and graphic t-shirts with DEET. I use permethrin for clothes and gear as well. I even use it when I do yard work. DEET will eat through a lot of things including plastic hair clips!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
