OK folks, throw another stick on the fire, crack a beverage, and help me out here. I'm leaving for a hunt with Pawprint Safaris in three weeks, for buff and sable. But I've arranged almost a week extra to hunt plains game. I am also going for a giraffe and zebra. I am having trouble choosing between a waterbuck and nyala, a black or blue wildebeest, and either a huge kudu or a huge eland should they show themselves. ( heaven help my bank account if they do.) Should I be thinking bushbuck? I do have great examples of kudu, eland, Oryx, warthog and hartebeest already.
Keep in mind I am a working man, and funds are very limited.

Skip the kudu and eland if you already have them and spend your money on animals you don't have.

Nyala and blue wildebeest
Pieter has some great kudu And his area holds bushbuck pretty good!
Either way ur in good hand with pawprints i took a giraffe last year with them.

Don't pass on the Bushbuck. I love the way they look, the habitat and the methods. There isn't a more handsome animal in my opinion. I have 4 species of them and will never pass on an opportunity at a nice trophy Bushbuck.

Steve

IMO never pass a huge kudu. Take what Mother Nature offers.

Bushbuck can need to be hunted specifically for which can make it difficult with the other higher priorities, but I am sure pawprint will give you some idea of success when your there and you talk over your options.

Yeah if a kudu in the high 50's jumps out, I won't be able to pass it up...

I like the Black wildebeest over the blue. They are fun to watch run around and look crazy. On the other hand my wife liked the blue better so she took a blue. I would do a waterbuck AND nyala since you already have a kudu. I will be going after waterbuck myself on my next trip since I took a nyala on my last one.

Lots of tough calls there!!

Big eland or kudu, take whichever presents an opportunity first! Black or Blue WB also a tough call, Blue makes nice rug and Euro! Take a bushbuck if the opportunity is there also!

I would add a bushbuck for sure and then be opened to either the nyala or waterbuck. Kudu or eland maybe if you find one better then you took already. Blue wildebeest I like better but those crazy black beast will get you going when you see them in the bush to. There is some great impala around in the area to.

Don'y get caught up in the inch thing, a few inches either way on kudu and eland won't make a difference once they're on the wall.

It may not be a popular opinion but I'd wait to make that decision till I got there. For example I'd never even heard of a Nyala before I saw one in South Africa but after seeing it I wanted it! My (albeit untried and untested) rule from now on is "see what Africa provides". I'd hate to tell you to go for a blue and have a world record black break cover two seconds later, or say try for an Eland (I'm lying, it was the best hunt easily and I don't think I'd ever regret telling someone to try for one!) when a 60 inch Kudu was available. Either way, I've added my stick to the campfire and can't wait to hear from others as well!

Finish your beest slam and add a Springbok.

Have a great safari and post lots Pictures, I'll be hunting with Pawprint in mid July trying to complete my own beest slam.

Nyala, Black Wildebeest, I have regretted not shooting one since my first trip!
Never pass on a big kudu! Definitely a bushbuck, I will hunt bushbuck every chance I get from now on, wonderful animal.
That damn checkbook keeps a lot of us from getting very ignorant! Best of luck

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
