Hi all, looking for a couple of good book recommendations that focus specifically on hunting dangerous game. Not so much safari experiences, travel tales, or hunting Africa in general, but books sharing genuine, personal experiences hunting dangerous game. The actual hunt, logistics, dangers, etc - whether memoirs or instructional.

I've just picked up a set of Jim Corbett's books - who else would you recommend?

"Death in the Long Grass" by Capstick

"Hunter" by John Hunter

Are a couple hat come to.mind.

Awesome, will pick up both. Thank you for the recommends.
And we can't leave out "The Man-Eaters of Tsavo" by Patterson.

I should have thought of that first. It's a classic. I'll let you know if I think of any others.

I’ve read a bunch, my favorite is Kevin Thomas’ Shadows in an African Twilight.

He includes a good mix of technical information, interesting hunting stories with some lessons learned, and also some history from a man who went from a Rhodesian SF soldier to become a PH. Highly recommend.

Kevin Thomas’, Something About Buffalo is informative and well written technical information, obviously about hunting buffalo from a PH and sometime problem animal control officer.

Sue Tidwell’s Cries of the Savannah should be required reading for every hunter going to Africa to understand the critically important role hunting plays in the conservation of African wildlife. Read this and understand how to respond to questions about why hunting African game animals is not only ok, but essential to their survival.

Robert Ruark, Use Enough Gun is well written and a classic for a reason.

Hemingway’s Green Hills of Africa is another great classic.

Personally, I did not care for Capstick at all.

I'm a big fan of Ted Kerasote's book 'Bloodties' for emerging adult hunters. Nice exploration of hunting from several angles.

These are great recommendations, and very much appreciated. I just spent a bunch on amazon picking up 5 of the books you all have mentioned here. So very glad I asked, as some of them seem pretty hard stumble upon. Thanks again!

There are so many good ones on the topic you requested. Any particular species? What have you read and liked so far?

Kai-uwe Denker has a couple books. Hard to find and expensive. But I like them a lot. Have read and re-read. One is called “about the spirit of the African wilderness” and the other is “along the hunters path”

“Into the thorns” and “drums of the morning” by Wayne Michael grant. Again, hard to find. But worth it

“It shouldn’t happen” by Kevin Robertson

“Facing down fear” by John Sharp

“Heat thirst and ivory” by Fred Everett. He has another book “tuskers in the dust”. I haven’t read it yet.

“Mahohboh” by Ron Thomson

“Tall tales” by Buzz charlton

“Memoirs of an African hunter” by Terry Irwin

Some of my favorites. Some are hard to find. Most of them are expensive.
