Not sure if you are asking a serious question or being stupid, or in your words Absolute dufus.
I am fully aware of the comparison 458WM (aka 458 special) / 458 Lott (aka 458 magnum). Much the same as comparing 38 spl/ 357 mag or 44 spl/ 44 mag.
Dear Ridge Runner,
The SAAMI/CIP .458 WM, or as you call it, the "458 special" can be loaded to a longer Cartridge Overall Length
than the SAAMI/CIP .458 Lott, which you call the "458 magnum."
That is not very like the 38 spl/357 mag or 44spl/44 mag analogy,
so you are still presenting a lack of understanding of the basic premise of your "situation."
As many have said here, your issue is a non-issue.
Many here have tried to help you understand, to no avail.
Their good deeds seem to torment you into willfully ignoring the facts.
It truly seems that ignorance is bliss for you,
and no good deed goes unpunished.
Reminds me of Damnedocrat politics where a narrative is decided on and gas lit.
BTW,
I have a new name for the SAAMI/CIP .458 Lott suggested by a fellow riflecrank: ".458 Less"
The original .458 Lott wildcat of 1971 was created by taking a .450 Watts Magnum reamer (originating in 1949) and grinding the throat off of it.
Jack Lott then re-chambered an existing .458 WIN MAG rifle with it.
This fact is clearly shown by the writings and published reamer drawing attested to by Jack Lott.
This left the terminal portion of the .458 WIN MAG's leade-only throat sitting atop a chamber length of 2.870" which is meant for 2.850" brass case maximum length.
Jack shortened his brass to 2.800" max and a new cartridge was born, 0.050"
LESS length than the Watts. A new wundercartridge.
Yes, Jack Lott gut shot (with a 510-gr factory soft) that buffalo that tossed him in 1959, Mozambique.
He got off a second shot with a factory 500-gr FMJ before the buffalo sent both Jack and the .458 WIN MAG M70 African flying into the bushes.
Due to the high velocity of the load, that RN FMJ deformed and went squirrely, off course, placement is important.
Jack and friend Tom Siatos continued using .458 WIN MAG rifles on safari for at least another decade.
Then Tom, Editor of G&A, thought up the .460 G&A wildcat with Jack's help.
Jack got the me-too bug and wanted a cartridge named after himself.
So he took a .450 Watts Magnum reamer with no throat and ran it into a .458 WIN MAG rifle.
Voila ! the .458 Lott wildcat was born, 1971.
Jack then covered up some details about his buffalo tossing so as to promote his wildcat at the expense of the .458 WIN MAG. Alas, the true details had already been honestly published in the gun rags by him, for people like me to read.
On fireforming .375 H&H brass Jack found it came out shorter than the 2.850" case of the .450 Watts.
Made sense to shorten the .458 Lott spec to 2.800" max trim.
Got his case mouths nicely uniformed, and truly distinguished his namesake from the .450 Watts.
Lucky for Jack some Damnedocrats got control of Winchester ammo factory QA.
His propaganda campaign got an unfair boost.
The valor of the .458 Lott Like Jack Built came largely due to the stolen remnant of .458 WIN MAG throat.
Stolen valor.
Then Jack committed suicide.
Art Alphin grieved for loss of Jack, and got too deep into the moonshine at his A-Square plant in Kentucky.
Another Voila !
The SAAMI spec .458 Lott is born about 1998.
Ruger and Hornady finally started making rifles and ammo for it a few years later.
Another Voila !
To increase sales the anti-.458 WIN MAG propaganda intensifies.
The ".458 Less" is a truly great name for the SAAMI .458 Lott.
It is a .458 Lott Like Jack Built except it has LESS throat,
and it has LESS brass length than the .450 Watts Magnum too.
Kudos to my fellow riflecrank for the ".458 Less" name.
Why did I never think of that ?
The SAAMI/CIP .458 Lott is also known as the .458 KFC (Kentucky Fried Cartridge)
since its final homologation originated in Kentucky and moonshine probably fueled the design.
