It finally arrived today. I'm now the proud owner of a 550 in 375. Figured I'd give a Unboxing review.

Box was rather plain brown cardboard with a Gal shooting a CZ rifle on the lid. When I opened it up the rifle was packed well within styrofoam and wrapped in oiled plastic.

The rifle had very few machine marks and none where in the areas that touch moving parts. The blueing isn't quite the gloss one would expect from a Browning yet not as dull as what I've come to see on Ruger and Remington. It's very uniform with no thin or splotchy areas.

The wood now I was really impressed with a factory produced rifle with the stick they put it in. It's a nice walnut colored piece of very straight grain walnut. With a nice oil finish. Grain is perfect through the wrist and had nice figure throughout. It also has very nice albiet machined checkering.

The bore looks very nice with no burrs in the chamber or rifling that are visible with aid of light.

The action is very smooth and seems to eject wonderfully. Had no issues feeding factory Hornady ammo. It ejects very nicely wether you are pulling the bolt as fast as can be or as slow.

I shall try and post some results as to how it shoots this weekend when I make the range.

If your CZ feeds well straight out of the box that's grea, especially as it will only get better with repeated cycling. I'm a big fan of CZ and my .375 is my favorite rilfe in the safe, but mine tool some work...

Congrats!

And, if you want first blood to be a Sable Spike will surely help you out. :)

Gunnie, looking forward to a range report. I had heard alot about the feeding problems on the CZ 550, but i never experienced any of these problems with my .375 last fall when i received it. My brother picked up a CZ 527 in 7.62X39 at the same time. One of the best shooting (out of the box) rifles i have used. However, if you feed this rifle cheap mil surplus ammo it will give you lots of feeding problems.

Thinking first blood will have to be a little closer to home. About six hours on the road and I can shoot Russian boar. Hunts are priced very affordably and it'll give me a chance in the closer future to use the rifle. Though I sure would like to cross the pond. If I could only find a winning lottery ticket. But, as such one most play to win.

Don't give up the African dream! it is much more affordable than many think. Not saying it is free, but with planning most can live the dream at least once, especially with Plains Game. :)

Congrats on the new rifle Gunnie

Enjoy your new CZ how about some pics

Congrats. Used my CZ 550 375 to take a buff in Zim. I now own one in 404 jeff. Both feed great, look great, and shoot great. Will probably bloody my 404 on hogs in Florida this year.

I think it was either Betty Crocker or The Dalai Lama who once said:
You can't go wrong with a .375, Jesus saves and the IRS wants YOU.

Nice stock

Very nice indeed.. The Safari Classics are usually a bit nicer and have more features than standard grade. I note it has the dual stock crossbolts, a worthy feature.

When ordered through my local shop it was ordered as a American Safari. I saw pictures of some with cross bolts and some without. When it showed up it was that rifle. I am very happy with the rifle it's far nicer then excepted. The wood I think is very nice. Fit and finish is exceptional. Only machine marks are back by the safety. None in the moving components.

I use J-B Bore Cleaner to lap my bolts and make them run much smoother. It is messy to clean up, but the results are worth it.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
