After reading multiple posts about Trop safeties and having experienced the frustrating bounce back into chamber of an empty 300 H&H cartridge due to hitting the front of the factory safety, I contacted Trop Gun Shop in Pennsylania who referred me to Greg Krick at Krick Composites also in Pennsylvania in the Lancaster area. He has these safeties for sale. I will post a photo of mine as soon as it returns from the smith who is also installing a Jard trigger for me.

Can you supply a bit more info on this safety? Is the the Legendary Action Works safety the was unfortunately discontinued or something new. I "did the Google" on Krick Composites and came up with zilch as far as safeties are concerned.

Yes, a link to the makers' website or perhaps a place where they can be purchased would be handy.
Thanks

Not to steal the thread, but why not just grind off the leading edge of the safety?

As far as I know it is the same Legendary Action Works safety. Looked the same to me. When I have my gun back will post photos.
You can surely grind off the front of the factory safety but may not look as elegant a solution.

I think his main business may be custom composite rifle stocks. Saw a Ron Spomer Outdoors You Tube on them.

I have the Legendary safety on 2 of my #1's they work great, but don't have one on my 45-70 #1. What I did was take the forearm off and increase the tension on the ejector spring till the empty cleared the safety, it works.Paul

Little confused, have a # 1. You are saying when ejecting a spent cartridge sometimes it will hit the safety and push it into the safe position? I never heard of it but could see it happening. Mine is 7mag. Interesting post!!!

No. The empty does not eject. It bounces back into the chamber after hitting the front of the safety in the Fire position. It does not move the safety.

Got yah, thank you. Think that has happened to me before.

I still have muscle memory of upward tilting my 12ga SxS to eject hulls from CAS competition days and that technique works with the factory safety on my .450/.400 #1, but would be much nicer to just eliminate that problem with a better designed safety button.

Interesting. I had never heard of a “Trop” safety till your post, CJNJ.

I’ve frequented their shop often for 25 or 30 years. Not as much after it was sold 15 yrs or so ago and changed to Trop Tactical but still went a few times a year. The shop continued to decline and went back to just “Trop”, I think. Haven’t been in for a couple years. They were very recently bought by Kinsey’s and subsequently closed down. Supposedly reopening as Freedom Armory so the Trop name will cease to exist I assume.

The original shop was much smaller but much better, IMO. Picked up this 5lb can of PB just before the previous sale 15yrs ago. Had I known PB was going to be discontinued, I would have grabbed the other one that was on the shelf.

Good price for that powder! Thanks for the interesting information. I've never been to the Trop gun shop and would never have heard of a "Trop" safety myself if I had not seen posts about it on the Allure of the Ruger No. 1 thread here (excellent thread with many beautiful rifles). Apparently they at one time carried the safety known as Legendary Action, and some posters here referred to it as a "Strop" or "Trop". Because of the Allure of the Ruger No. 1 posts, I got in touch with "Trop Gun Shop," they told me they no longer carried the safety I was looking for and referred me to Greg Krick of Krick Composites to see if he had one. Although he doesn't seem to have a website, I got in touch with him and he said he did have one he could sell me, and sent it to me. I've never met any of these people but am happy for their helpfulness. Apparently these safeties are difficult to track down.

@Doug3006 can respond to this post with how he corrected this issue with his River #1.

This is a common problem with the Ruger #1. The safety is designed so that the forward edge of the safety tab stops the ejecting case. With mine. This often leads to the case rebounding off of the tab and re-chambering itself. I fixed this by cutting a small portion off the leading edge of the tab with a mini hack saw. Then filing and polishing and re-blueing the tab. Now the empty shell ejects clear of the rifle. It helps to protect the action by inserting a small piece of aluminum flashing between the action and the tab while cutting and filing. This procedure was recommended by my friend @kevinpeacocke. Works great.

This is the recessed safety on my Ruger No 1, 500 Sharps.

My gunsmith and I talked about this. Good technique.
Thanks.

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
