Custom Rifle Case from Elephant Trunk

Thats very cool, except I read the title as elephant TUSK. I was very confused when I clicked.:Hungover:

That’s 100% BAD ASS!

Wow that is beautiful! What does something like that cost to make ?

Beautiful! I am not much on soft cases, but I would definitely take that one!

Beautiful.

I’ve never done this but I’d like to get a gun case or something made from my buffalo hide next year. Do you need to do give any special instructions to the skinners? Does it go to a tannery in Africa or here in the states.

Also just a public service announcement when looking up leather link on the internet make sure you don’t have a typo and start the second word with k. It brings very different results.

The only instructions for the skinners is to not put any extra holes in the hide, LOL. Elephant ears and trunks are difficult to skin cleanly. Skinning and caring for the hide is a tedious project and there’s a lot of work to get done when an elephant is on the ground.

You can have it tanned in Africa or in the US. Pros and cons to both. My elephant was tanned a funny color that has a bit of blue in it. It’s not so evident on the trunk, but the side panels are a bit odd. The color isn’t perfectly even on the big panels either. Maybe a US tannery would have done it better. Maybe. Tanned leather is WAY lighter than dip & pack hides, especially if it’s something large like an ele or whole buffalo. That results in smaller crates and lower freight charges. Either can be fine, but make sure you pick a color before you are home trying to look at colors on the Internet instead of real leather.

I had my hippo tanned through Andy Hunter in Zim. Al Santos at James Leddy boots made me two pair of hunting boots. Couldn't be happier. According to Al, he much prefers Zim tanned gameskins over US tanneries.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
