Custom Mauser questions

From the sound of your request you want to build something that is classic and shoots respectively. There have been many mauser 98's and springfield O3's converted to 270 and just about all the other rounds that fit in a standard length action. I have several of both in my safe in different calibres, along with winchesters rugers cz's etc.

I have used PAC-NOR to rebarrel several mausers and Ruger RMS and have been very satisified with their work and service. Have also used McGowen barrels in builds and have had good results from the rifles they barreled for me. I like PAC-Nor better. My wife is very much colour oriented on her stocks. I have fit a boyds thumbhole stock to her rifles (Ruger and Mauser) from 22Lr, 7x57, 338, and 375 so that they all fit her exactly the same. Find a good smith that can do the final fitting of the stock to metal and make sure it fits your wife or daughter as there are VERY few rifles off the shelf that will fit a woman. The extra time getting it to fit correctly will be worth ever extra step you take and to have a lifetime hunting companion is priceless. If it is something you want to make personal I say go for it. there is my .02 worth

Ohhh!!!! Love has it's price and it's steep!
Lil' Sisters Fiance just traded his Porsche GT3...

Good luck with the rifle. I will say the Howa 1500 is a very good entry level pushfeed. The stock.however will likely have to be replaced and the factory finish is at best pedestrian.

Hey fellas, good reading all of your replies. This ole girl here is a bit different. She's from Zimbabwe and her dad was a PH so she grew up in Safari camps all over Africa. She's quite a good shot and she has an eye for well put together firearms. We are not too far from the point where we are going to start traveling and hunting quite a bit and a couple of the countries we want to hunt don't allow the import of anything that was a previous or a current military clambering, hence the 270win. I have been in touch with a man that strikes me as extremely knowledgeable and competent that will do the rifle up for her and at a price I can live with but by no measure cheap. It will be made into a take down configuration and stocked to her dimensions, can't wait to see the look on her face...
I am with you on this one. A .270 is an ideal cartridge for the '98 and your new bride. And if you are planning to build it as a take-down, you have already decided to make a meaningful investment. Talk to your gun maker about scope bases. The rear base can be tricky on a military receiver - even with bases designed for a '98. Have him do the drilling, tapping and installation while he has the rifle. And if you are going to do all this, have him checker that stock if you are going with wood. No matter how well done, and how nice a stick of wood, an uncheckered finished product can look a bit like a garage project. But good on you - it is the sort of thing she'll cherish the rest of her life. Oh, and by the way, I am still infatuated with the Kansas farm girl I married 37 years ago.

Well since love is forever, or until the Judge grants the divorce. I would say saving some money and buy a Tikka. Want to spend some more money? Get the SAKO 85. Going to travel the world hunting? Blaser would be the way to go, one gun just change barrels.

Girls/Women are funny. My daughter wanted to go hunting with me shot a 132 SCI buck (first and only deer) So I bought her a SAKO 85 Bavarian in 6mm-08. It’s still in the plastic wrap in the box, next season “I hate hunting and I will never go again.”

@Mac Baren, I live central to city of Cincinnati. I have work travel early this week but could hopefully meet later this week (with no schedule changes). What area of town are you working/staying in?
Kind regards
