Creating a 9.3x62 do it all

Any thoughts on bullets folks? I'm tempted to look at the ~250gr range. (Imagine Moose, black bear, wild boar, red / whitetail / mule deer rather than buff oriented)

RWS Cone Point (KS)
Barnes TTSX
Nosler Accubond
Woodleigh Protected Point
Peregrine VG4

Thinking that 250gr still has nice SD but is a bit higher MV for a bit better MPBR than the 285gr offerings

Scrum, I just took delivery of the rifle yesterday. It is truly a thing of beauty and the mounts are outstanding. I've put a Swaro Z8, 1-8x on it. It looks to me like other rings could easily be fitted to the bases but I have no prior experience with this system so I would want to get someone with more knowledge than I to provide advice.

WAB, that's fantastic! Health to enjoy many great days afield with it!

I will see if I can get some more detail on what you could fit to the Apel's

Any chance of a pic of your rifle?

I'll post a pic soon, I'm a little tech challenged. Regarding bullets, I am loading the 250 and 286 gr A-Frames.

Thanks WAB, hadn't considered the A-frames... my bad ;)

I loaded Nosler AB 250's but couldn't really get the accuracy I wanted. Also tried a few of the Norma Oryx 325's.

Norma factory ammo with A-Frame 250's shot a little tighter.

But it is probably due to the fact that I didn't do real thorough load development. And of your rifle may of course love the AB's better than anything else.

My 9.3 is a bit of a safe queen at the moment, and so far I've only shot paper targets, but I'll get round to start reloading soon again.
May be looking at the Norma or Woodleigh 232gr or 286's, or perhaps some monometal bullet (TSX, GMX or E-tip) in 250. Or get casting my own. Or....

I would look at using the weaver style bases, the swaro 3x9 on QR rings and a red dot for the driven boar.

I have had great luck with A-frames and the 250gr accubon shoots lights out in my rifle. the 9.3x62 bolt gun, and 9.3x74 Double are my favourite below 40Cal rounds...

This is the Rigby Highland Stalker in 9.3x62. Swaro Z8 1-8x on EAW apel mounts. Shoots lights out.

On my 9,3x74R I have two Zeiss telescopes: 1.1-4x24 and 2.5-10x52, both German reticle no. 4. Ideal telescopes for hunting during day and night.

For what it’s worth, both my FNs carry 3-9x40 Zeiss scopes on Leupold rings and basis. They are not unsightly, reliable, and you can put rings high enough on so that you do not need to drift out your rear sight to fit the scope. That will have to happen with the x56 Swarovski though.
This should give an idea.

Is the rifle a 250 savage. If so beautiful rifle and wonderful caliber. Even if it's not 250 it still a beautiful rifle.

I really like the stock.

"the 9.3x62 to do it all" is the one that has been rechambered to 9.3x64, and uses bullets up to the job.
bruce.

This is a great thread folks. In the end didn't drill and tap. Mounted a 2 MOA red dot. I'll take it down to Bisley and see what sort of accuracy I can get and 100 and 200 yds when this CV 19 thing blows over.

Scrummy

I'll be interested to see what it will do actually. At 200 yds it's a 4" circle but if you hold for the centre of the shoulder on a decent sized antelope or deer (fallow, whitetail, red etc) is that implied 2 moa accuracy good enough? I'll be interested to find out.

You can still shoot MOA or so with a RD optic, even if the dot is bigger.

The 9.3x62 is, as someone said, a classic cartridge and IMO bullet weight should reflect this. I wouldn't shoot anything in it but 286 grain -- maybe 300 grain.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
