The Australian army in the Vietnam era used a mans rifle, the FN FAL L1A1 in 7.62 Nato that would shoot through trees, we also used the M16, lighter weight, lighter ammo but much less effective. Now they use a girls gun a plastic piece of shit in 5.56 the F88 Auststyer it makes an M16 look good.

In the interest if full disclosure: Let it be known that I spent almost 5 years as an 0331, and retain a deep abiding affection for the M60. Yes, I will grudgingly admit that the M240G has its advantages, but doesn't matter: I can still work an M60 blindfolded, in the dark, and upside down.

This is also the reason I don't have a whole lot of faith in the poodle-shooters of the world.

My personal interest in AR-15/AR-10!style rifles does not really go further than their capabilities for certain situations.

Rendering one a bit more tasteful is not going to help that I prefer a more classic rifle (although they are loads of fun on the range). Lipstick on a pig.

However, I have been looking into this lipstick for some years, but not to make it more beautiful, but rather make it look more appetising to the anti-gun crowd.

I find it very difficult over here, with the lack of options, to build something that could be effectively used as to it’s original purpose, but looks like grandpa’s old deer rifle. Light, short, semi auto, modern optics, 5.56/.223, stanag mag capable.

Back to the OP's original efforts, I thought he did a very good job of putting lipstick on a pig. From a looks standpoint AR(s) are a "double bagger" for sure, but we all know they have their uses.

I just let it in the same room as some of mine today. Packing to go hunting this week, but if I take it, I think I’m going to make it ride in the back of the truck. Maybe even the tack room on the horse trailer.

I live in Western Wyoming, but I have some property over on the east side of the state. I didn’t find a good Muley over here this year, so I figured I would go over there and see if I could find a decent whitetail while season is open.
That rifle is one built for me by Dennis Erhardt out of Helena, MT. It is a 9.3x62, and currently one of my favorites. A little overkill for whitetail, but oh well.

CM McKenzie, my 35 Whelen has accompanied me on several deer and or Hog hunts. I like it because it doesn't have "Magnum" anywhere in its' DNA. My favorite Deer rifle is a 6.5 X 55 Sporterized Swedish Mauser.

AR is a tool with a purpose and a well built rifle is more art. My take on it. I have both and enjoy shooting them both.

Had to strip one in the dark a few times shooting blanks with a BFA on FTXs. Damn things didn't have power enough to work the action sometimes. Not the case with live ammo. Fun as hell to shoot from the shoulder. Rambo had nothing on us.

My safe has several AR rifles in it. Started out with one, then an upper, then of course I soon needed another lower .... cause. I think there are 3 in 5.56, 1 in 6.8spc and 1 in 7.62x39. I like them all and spend a lot of time shooting and hunting with them. And of course for defensive purposes they are my go to long gun.

Oddly enough, after my ARs my favorites are my Ruger #1s, love those rifles.

I mightily enjoy the ARs in my collection, as they are an American standard in their own right and intermediate cartidges are cheap and easy to shoot all day, but the classic roots in me will always prefer a traditional battle rifle with a full power cartridge. The HK G3 and FN FAL are wonderful, of course, but based purely on aesthetics my heart is with the M14. The Springfield M1A Tanker is one of my favorites to take out of the safe for an afternoon of plinking.

The pictures are not my actual M1A (stock photos), but this rifle is the same model (Tanker) and pretty close to the wood I have on mine (though this stock is definitely a bit nicer than mine). I adore it.

They are fun to shoot and are a practical tool for certain applications. However, gas guns burn dirty. Unless you pay up, they have loose parts, jam(AR)and don’t shoot tight groups. Anti gunners will never stop trying to ban them, and the crazies that go on killing sprees with them makes it worse.
Otherwise, I love my AR,AK and may buy an M1A one day. Haven’t or won’t likely hunt with them(maybe for Hogs). Ultimately, wooden stocks on hunter/sporters are my favorite. The aesthetics of nicely grained wood , with a a good fit and finish on a solid rifle is like no others. As much as I am tempted to buy a TRG22 Sako, the Sako 85 (wood stock) taunts me more for its beauty. One thing is for sure, I doubt anyone owning one would mind having it; and will likely keep it.

I bought an AR for my daughters to start shooting but they didn't take much interest in it. I have an 8-year-old that is getting closer to that age. I am seriously thinking about getting it altered to look a little more appealing to her. This below is what I had in mind:
