Cowboy’s take on an AR15

I am classic gun person myself, classic pistols, revolvers, and rifles, wooden stocks, etc.
But being a member of practical shooting club, and coach there, I will need asap to upgrade my inventory to black rifle. I did shoot few at paper targets and must say in general ergonomic to handle ar is top, and they are pleasant to shoot. Modern ar is also very accurate. So, its my next step in evolution as rifleman.

I built this just to see if it would work, but a little back story first.

First thing first.... I hate AR rifles. I think they are ugly. I admit, I enjoy shooting them, but I don’t feel the joy or satisfaction of a fine mauser when I hold them in my hands.

A law enforcement buddy of mine insisted for years he would get me into AR rifles, but he didn’t have any luck.

Last year he gave me a stripped upper and lower for Christmas as a joke, but by doing so he made it an obligation to assemble an AR.

This is my best effort to build an AR I almost enjoy holding.

I figure it’s not for everyone, but I thought a few might enjoy it. I have not seen another like it.View attachment 437515View attachment 437516View attachment 437517
Hmm, quite interesting.

AR's, in fact all black guns do nothing for me. Walnut and blued steel are just too beautiful, particularly in a double. A hybrid wood adorned AR doesn't excite me either. In car parlance don't they call this pimping? ETTO though.

To be fair…. I never did warm up to that rifle no matter what I did. I ended up selling it, and buying four bundles of new fence posts for a new set of horse corrals. I’ve discovered I find more happiness in fence posts than AR rifles.

You guys obviously never watched YELLOWSTONE TV show, with Kevin Costner? And how they use ar15, cowboy style on modern ranch?
And you should check what modern redne...$%# I mean modern rural American pack?

(Hint: check no 6 on the list)

There ain’t no deny’n, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a single wide full of AR’s around here. Everybody and their dog has the latest and greatest.

I bought a 5-pack of 80%s just to thumb my nose at the bidet trying to ban everything. My kid is into the black rifles, so he is finishing 2 of them for me, he gets to keep the other 3; should have the 2 lowers soon. So I have added a 300AAC and a 458Socom to the 5.56 I won at a DU banquet a while back. Putting scopes on them tomorrow. Fun to shoot, but the Chapuis 9.3x74R is a LOT more to my liking. Blued steel and walnut are SO much more enjoyable to see in the rack and shoot.
Btw, @CM McKenzie , that is the best looking hand guard I've seen on an AR

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
