Considering rhino hunt or dart hunt

They sure were expensive Bob but hey were nowhere near what you would pay nowadays
That was not my experience in 2021. Perhaps just booking a lion hunt. But book a full bag Tanzania hunt and add the lion as part of that hunt.... the lion itself is not that expensive to add on, especially considering it is a Wild Lion! Of course the rest of the hunt adds up.

But what is the cost to hunt 21 days anywhere else for such a list of critters in a wild area of almost a million acres and no human population?

Thanks but I am looking for something on a larger property. I have offers I am considering on 22,000 acres, 50,000 acres and 200,000 acres. I am looking at 2024 and will talk to some outfitters at SCI as well. I have not made a decision yet.

Wow, what do you have so far? Where are you hunting for what? Great to have confidence in your plan;) I hope it works out!
I have a nice buff, getting my second buff, elephant in Zim with D&Y this August. Going to Africa Sun right after Zim Safari for my lion. That will give me 3. In 25 I booked with another AH member for a leopard hunt in Moz. at SCI Nashville with TSALA who I took my first buff with. The only hunt I have not booked yet to take the big 5 is the rhino.

One of the first animals I encountered on my first trip to Africa was a cow rhino. A bit of a surprise. At that time the owner said he had around forty on 167,000 acres. Sadly, by my third trip they were unable to find any. One property I hunted the second trip for buffalo had a LOT of rhino. We were bumping into them everywhere. Waiting in ambush for two bull buff on their morning walkabout, a cow with little calf almost ran into us. Less than forty yards. She bolted and buff took off. I got one of the two bulls later that afternoon. The owner offered me a deal to dart a rhino for $6K but I have no interest in them or any of the other Big Five ... except buffalo. Can't get enough hunting them. Wish it would have taken longer. That property was loaded with game. But I'd already been chasing buff several days on another property and scheduled to hunt other animals. So we loaded up and drove five hours back to the lodge to hunt East Cape.

In my opinion, and only my opinion, I have no interest in darting a rhino.

If I could hunt a completely free ranging black rhino (maybe in Namibia??? or another country with a sustainable herd), I would do that.

Other than that, or a similar situation, I'm not very interested.

I guess the white rhino that walked up to our vehicle looking for a sugar cube or handful of salt in South Africa, kind of squashed my interest in shooting one.

Was that property known for hunting them? Or breeding? Or just a few for viewing?

Theres videos of people walking up to Cape Buffalo eating hay. Theres others that dont get their buff even on "high fence". Theres Texas exotics ranches where you could probably kill certain species with a knife. And others where it's fair chase regardless of fence.

Not all properties and operations are created equal. To each their own, but I'd bet quite a bit that your experience is more credited to that than the species you encountered

I think you could likely do that if you really wanted to and pay the price. May take time and expense to line it up and get paperwork in order. But others have done it.

Yea my experience would say there is a lot of general truth in what you are saying. But it can be difficult to sort through the bs and find that proper place. And some critters are just naturally calmer while others tend to have a naturally cantankerous attitude.

Makes me think of all the dairy bulls that are pets right up until they kill someone.

Definitely. But rhino are part of the big 5 for a reason, lots more videos of them being ornery than getting fed sugar cubes lol

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John buzzardhilllabs@hotmail.com

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
