Commercial Mauser 98 Parts - Bolt, Trigger, Metal, Two Stocks

swapping out the cocking piece is a reasonably effective move (I had a 95 Mauser that no matter how much fitting I did I couldnt get it to work.. but after changing out cocking pieces (went through 3 or 4 of them to find the right one) it worked like a charm)..

Im almost certainly going to have to clean up the threads on the shroud as well..

the gun Im installing this on has one of the buehler flip safeties on it now.. it works.. but its a little unsightly.. outside of the safety its a really pretty rifle.. nice wood, custom bottom metal, good blue, etc.. I figure for about $125 between the trigger and the shroud.. it'll dress the rifle up a good bit more.. pretty low cost to gain a good bit more beauty..

I paid $200 for my 3-position Model 70 safety/shroud in the white. They also sell them blued or case hardened for about $50 more. Adding a Timney trigger with trigger block safety would be about $80 more than a Timney without safety so changing to 3-position wasn't a terribly expensive choice since I had to replace the shroud in any event.

For me the biggest drawback to the Timney trigger block safety is the gap left between stock and safety lever. Looks like a great place for debris and moisture to get at trigger mechanism. A gunsmith might be able to make a cap to dress it up and close it up some. The stock I picked up was carved for one of those safeties. I filled the gap with epoxy died brown. I also found position two for the Model 70 style safety very handy when fine tuning the feeding rails. It allowed me to work safely cycling live rounds ... until I finally figured I could reload some dummy rounds without powder or primer (duh!).

I'm assuming the answer is No, but does anyone know if the extractor from this bolt would work for the Interarms Mark X bolt for the smaller calibers such as 243/308?

A gentry is $160 in the white.. $200 if you want it delivered blued.. it does require some fitting.. so there would be the cost of having a gunsmith do a little work as well..

I installed my own (Parkwest) but I'm a bit handier than most guys. Timney trigger did not match up to it well.

I can usually fit a bolt shroud (same 1st step task as fitting the 3 position trigger) pretty easily.. but normally dont recommend it to others.. Im no gunsmith.. but I have taken a few gunsmithing classes, have built a handful of rifles, etc.. and have decent tools..

I had forgotten about Parkwest.. those are well made 3 positions safety's.. you can usually find them on Gunbroker for about $200 also..

It's a magnum bolt so the extractor won't work the way it should. You might want to check a standard 98 mauser extractor.

It's a magnum bolt so the extractor won't work the way it should. You might want to check a standard 98 mauser extractor.

The problem is bolt face was opened up to magnum. Bolt length is standard (not magnum) and that would be fine for 243/308 but one would have to make the bolt face shrink to fit narrower cartridge rims. This has been discussed on other threads. It can be done ... maybe ... sorta. Better to find a bolt that has not been altered.

I’ll have a look at those.
Last time I found one for sale was before that whole Covid thing so, it was a good while back.
Seems like the price indeed was $350. US Dollars, (not counting shipping).
(Shipping to Alaska is bloody murder for cost).
I think it was listed at NECG but cannot remember that for sure any more.

Also, the only Gunsmith tools that I am any good with are the sledge hammer and cutting torch.
So, there will be the additional cost of an expert hand fitting the piece for me.

$350. US before shipping and hand fitting seemed high.
$200. already blued seems more reasonable to my tiny brain.

Check Midway. I seem to recall they also sell Gentry safeties.

You may have been looking at Myers 3-position Mauser safeties. They run about $350.
