CMS safari

Cannot go wrong…CMS are a top top outfitter. I’ll be hunting Elephant with them in May. Hunted Dande East back in 2012 I think it was.
They will have several options for you. They hunt several Prime areas for Buff.
Dande North
Nyakasanga
Sengwe
For example…
I was booked in the sengwe but i do not think they are still hunting that area anymore?
And no matter who you are, prince or pauper ( like me ) CMS will work their backsides off to give you the greatest hunt experience ever. CMS don't ever forget that you are the client who, with your hard earned cash, is trusting them to provide an unforgettable experience.
My suggestion is to go there with a determination to hunt hard and honestly. CMS will hunt as hard as you want to, and harder, and I don't think they understand the concept of ever "giving up". It will make you appreciate their outfit even more.
that is so wonderful to hear as i am a High School history teacher and I am hunting with them in 2027

My hunts with CMS have all been late Sept or into mid October. 28*C at night, and can be over 40*C during the day.

I happen to like the heat; and handle it pretty well. Makes packing stupid light as you need no long sleeve anything or coats.

2017 had some very warm weather, a few nights around 35 and days in mid 40’s.

We have always started early, like 4am and taken a fairly long break mid day unless on really fresh tracks. Afternoons generally get back to camp around 8pm for dinner. Its long days which also happens to suit me well.

I take a powder sports drink electrolytes mix for day and a small battery fan for night . I use rechargeable batteries and a backpacking solar charger that will do the batteries or a phone and stick it on the roof of the truck mid day to top things off.

In Dande North, Mururu camp is closed by late season and I have always hunted out of the main Pedza Pasi camp, although I have fished several days after hunting from Matambo, right on the Zambezi. Pedza has OK internet service, and they run a generator early morning, mid day and evening for lights, refrigeration, WiFi. Down side at Pedza is the block wall buildings hold the heat, they moved one persons bed out on the veranda for some relief. Matambo is tents and up on a ridge/bluff overlooking the river and I think is cooler temp wise.
All the camps have good internet now

Good to know for those that need to keep in touch; I dont use a phone or internet much when traveling, so not very high on my list of needs. Nice to know its there just in case.

I envy you, having your hunt booked and to look forward to. I wish I could say the same but believe my next hunt will be a few years away yet.
I wish you the best of luck sir on your forthcoming hunt. Adventure awaits you.

Dande North is in the Valley. CMS has some nice camps there.
You're right, October is usually hot. Latest I've hunted was early Sept. which was definitely warm but heat there doesn't seem to affect me much. Due to low humidity I think, unlike Auckland region where I live which is very himid and tiring. Gotta remember hydrate often even though you might nof feel thirsty. Just ensure the boys pack water bottles every day.
I don't know Dave but have met and had great discussions with Dean. I would hunt with him no problem. All my hunts have been with Alan Shearing, a gentleman and PH plus.
Thank you. Super excited. It will be a fair bit warmer than either Invercargill or Wanaka which i live and work between!
Banteng last year was 35-38C and pretty humid. Could do 20km days quite well and carried my own water for that.
Very very excited.

Thank you. Some great information there.
Yes, i like the heat too. Oddly I used to hate the heat, then I had a serious Traumatic Brain Injury from a big fall Tahr hunting. I now love the heat!
I'll check with Buzz which camp i'll be out of. He's got to confirm which of the two possible ph's hes allocated to me too.

Just fyi the Nyakasanga fly camp does Not have internet

You might be right and there may be no internet sytem installed there.
However, when there in August '23 I was able to get onto the net. There was something there that enabled me to connect once I installed an App on my phone. Maybe it was just a temporary thing that had been brought in by a client needing internet ... ??

It’s not a big deal but I was in the fly camp late September’24 and there was no internet service. I did try to use Keith’s hotspot from his phone but very spotty. The good news was the main
Camp, which was a couple hundred yards away had starlink so if necessary you could make contact.

We stayed in Matombo camp on the escarpment above the river earlier in the year. It was fantastic but it is right at one end of the concession so expect a drive to get into many of the more southern areas. We hunted hard for a week and covered a good distance each day. Sadly I didn’t get my tuskless but my pal @Lancaster did get a cracking buffalo! I can also heartily recommend the skills, knowledge and good humour of PHs Gareth Lecluse and David Mann who also hunt with CMS. If I could take my own rifle to Zim I would be back like a shot.

Mind if I ask what you can’t take your rifle?

As a UK resident we fall foul of the UK/EU arms embargo currently in place against Zimbabwe. If we get caught it is a custodial sentence or up to £20k fine…. Just not worth it! I tried to get a temporary export permit but it was denied. It’s a real shame as I would love to hunt Zimbabwe again

Interesting thanks I wasn’t aware of that. Forgive my ignorance is Zimbabwe the only country that applies to? Of the regularly hunted ones I mean.

Do any of the UK hunters still get around this by flying first to South Africa, then traveling on to Zimbabwe ? Or has this been discovered as a loophole and closed off ?

As far as I know Zim is the only common destination with an embargo in place. RSA, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana etc no problem. The offence occurs when a British citizen crosses the border into Zim with a firearm regardless of the route of entry. These days with electronic data being collected everywhere who knows what is or is not recorded. The last thing I want is to get arrested on my return as I had tripped off some sort of alert back home. Consequently I used the camp rifle instead.

In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
