Clothing? + gaiter recommendations

Thanks folks, appreciate it. There is a kit list on the outfitter website but this also really helps. I basically live in kuiu attack pants,(brown) so will probably use them but will add in gaiters just in case.

I’ve been gradually phasing across to olive colours on all my hunting stuff but what’s the etiquette with camo? Seems legal South Africa but apprently not allowed in other places? I’ve got a mix of both over time!

I usually wear OD, khaki or coyote. I might on occasion wear camo. I was a LEO so we received an allowance for 5.11 clothing so that worked out to my advantage!

I gave up on cammo years ago. The only thing it does is increase the profits for the clothing manufacturers.
Blaze orange on a driven boar hunt ? I think nearly all states in the US have mandatory blaze orange for hunters.
Sight, sound, smell and silhouette are the important elements to remember.
A PH hunted with me in a blue and white polo shirt. It didn’t make an iota of difference.

There are so many great choices for clothes as you have seen. The one thing I always make sure of is Teeste flies. If they will be present thick heavy long sleeve cotton shirts and long pants are the best defense given sprays will do little.

Hi Sika98k,

Agree!!!

Gave up on Camo? What!?! lol
Joking aside…+1 Boyt’s gaiters
They are quiet and comfortable.

I don't like wearing gaiters when I can help it. I prefer boots and pants that cover the top of the boot.

When I have to wear gaiters Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters work well. Don't get the Expedition ones, those are for going over thick insulated pants.

Also, Badlands has a set of Gaiters, (hilariously) named Master Gaiters. I have used those as well. I would say at first they seemed less thick, so I thought less durable. But they have held up very well over time, and I like some of their features more than a lot of others I have tried. I believe they also have a lifetime warranty on all items.

These are the type of gaiters most use in Africa. They are simply to keep thorn, burrs and sand or grit getting into your boots.
I agree the the calf length gaiters would not be an item of choice in Africa.

I am aware, but those don't interest me. I was just giving my preference.

If you don’t want to go with gaiters just turn your socks down over your boots. Keeps laces from becoming untied and you can soak them down with bug dope to keep any creepy crawlers off of your legs.
I have two sets of gaiters that I use, a set of leather ones from Courtney and a set of nylon ones from Texas Hunt Products but they may not be in business anymore. I prefer the leather ones mainly because my wife prefers the nylon ones.

Temperatures will be chilli in the morning and 25 + degrees by lunch. A hoodie or light jacket is all you need. I would suggest long sleeved fishing shirts- columbia or similar. I wear shorts and gaiters but trousers work. The gaiters mainly keep the grass seeds and stickers out of your socks.

Folks I’m away to KZN in May and I’m not entirely sure what to expect. I don’t really want to sound like an idiot to the PH so I thought I’d borrow from the experience on here.

1) I don’t have gaiters that would suit. All the UK ones I have are insulated. Any recommendations? I have reasonable ankle high boots

2) what temps should I be looking at? I was going to take a mix of stuff from T-shirts and light trousers to thick stuff that I’d wear in the winter. I assume mornings will be cold but will then warm up to around 20C?

Any other pearls of wisdom would be great!

I wear one most of the time. I feel I can see and hear better under a brim and dealdash if wearing a net it keeps the net away from eyes and ears.
Thanks!
For KZN in May, lightweight, breathable gaiters are best, ankle or mid-calf length to keep out dust and sticks. Your ankle boots should work fine. Temperatures are usually around 10 to 15°C in the mornings and evenings, warming to 20 to 25°C during the day, so layering is key with T-shirts, light trousers, and a fleece or light jacket. Also pack sun protection, bug repellent, and comfortable boots for rocky or sandy trails. Layering will keep you comfortable from chilly mornings to warmer afternoons.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
