I was thinking of a new thread topic, what is the closest shot you have taken on African game ? Lots of people talk about how far they can shoot but how close have you closed the deal ?

All my African plains game were taken about the 20 yard mark ......but I could have shot a cotton tail rabbit at 5 feet ,with a fish arrow today ....LOL !

in Africa
bow stalking , nyala bull at 14 metres, give or take a couple........

the only danderous game ive hunted , lioness at 26 or 27 metres...

bow hunting from a blind , gemsbok cow at 9 metres

stalking with riffle , zebra mare ,at 40 or 50 metres.....

in Australia ,
bow stalking , a fox at 3 metres.......for vermin
fallow doe at 7 metres...
from a tree stand, samba spikey at 11 metres....

hound hunting with the riffle a wounded samba hind jumped up and I pretty much had the barrel against her chest......

stalking with the riffle , a samba spikey at 4 or 5 metres

Bushbuck at 15 yards with a rifle

My water buck was walking by the hide window at about three yards, I figured it must be a gift from the hunting gods. Kudu at 14 yards from a pop up blind, walk and stalk on red Hartebeest 20 yards.

impala with a rifle , couldn't of been more than 5 m , I was the one side of the bush and he was the other .

I have also taken a blue wilderbeest in the same manner at around 10m .

Buffalo charge, about 5 inches, he was so close I had to put barrel over his head and shoot down into his spine and vitals from above him. Not a shot I would recommend...:A Outta:

In Africa a buff at 40m.

In Australia this Roo last week at 15m...

It wasn't Africa, but I shot a whitetail that I had been after at 8 feet with my .357mag Colt Trooper while sitting on the ground up against a tree. That was after letting him walk by at 6 feet! Almost had a heart attack.....lol

In Africa from the side window of my blind a 11 yards shoot a blesbock. and 14 yards in Alaska to a Grizzly

My Closest Bow shot ever was a walk and stalk on Springbuck which is pretty ironic as i set my sights in for about a 50-60 meter shot and started walking. After about 3 hours i changed my approach a bit as i could not get close to any Rams. I decided to try and get in front of the head and find a nice shady tree to try and ambush them, the first ram walked past me at about 3 meters and i just could not draw my bow because it was to close to me as it totally surprised me when it walked out in front of me. Then as i waited for the first one to pass so that i could draw i saw the second one coming in around the tree i was standing under and quickly drawed my bow. I shot it at 5m away, needless to say that does not happen every day with Springbuck on foot and it measured 14.5" which to me is outstanding.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
