Classic and Collectible Car and Motorcycle Thread

In 1978 I bought a Ducati 900 Desmo Supersport, I already had 750 GT. I sold them in the 2000 for $11,000, the supersport had 2500 miles on it and was in perfect condition. One of the many stupid things I have done.

It’s an ‘01 911 Carrera Cabriolet 996. First model with the water cooled engine and ugly headlights. Porsche purist hate them, but they seem to be growing in appreciation as all the air cooled peeps die off.

In the car collector/enthusiast circles, your 911 model has had a lot of chatter. Because the purists didn't like the headlight shape, collectors complained and hardcore drivers think they are maximum fun per mile. Now the collectors are speculating that they were not immediately deemed collectible resulting in harsher use and fewer surviving. Net, net, you will probably have the last laugh when they achieve classic-era standing. Plus they have a unique look ('63 split window scenario brewing?) . I love your car.

A friends daughter sorted some of his photos out and he sent me some of them a while ago....this was back in the late 1980s early 90s....not a bad trio of cars... :E Big Grin:

I don't really have any driveable classics just several projects to get started on once I get this property under control. My uncle passed away 2 years ago and it's taken that long to get all the junk and scrap off the 2 acres it covered.
My son, daughter, and daughter in law have plans for the 1960 f100, 56 Ford sedan and the rover. I think it's a 71?
I'm gonna get the rokon going again. It's a 71 been in that shed since the early 80s.

The mustang is actually my nicest cat at the moment. 02 GT with 80k on it.

Don't have a side view of the sedan but it's a 2dr customline I think. Badged thunderbird special.
Slight rust started along the edges everywhere. It was parked with only 50,000 miles on it.

Shows what kind of guy I am. I think that f100 has drawn my attention more than anything else in this thread. Well, except maybe for that guys cute cousin. A pickup of that vintage with 4wd is where it's at. Fix up the mechanics and interior and drive it like it is. That Rover ain't half bad either. I would love to bomb around the logging roads with one of those. Much jealousy.

It will start and run just getting realky rough.
My uncle converted the 4x4 himself back in the 60s with 3/4 ton axles. Started life as a 2wd.
I've got a new 223 block still in the crate that he bought for it 30 years ago also.

I love the organic smooth look of your Porsche, what model is it?

The shape and German quality of a Porsche can be something to behold. Nothing garish usually, just a beautiful, quality work of mechanical art. An old boss of mine had a GT3 and a GT3rs. The GT3 was a metallic gray and overall classy car. It oozed build quality, from the outside at least. I'm sure inside as well. Paint, metal work, perfect body panel gaps and stance over the tires and wheels. As someone who adores quality anything I could have looked at that car for hours.

I figured that would be the case after I thought about it a little with the 8 lugs and full float rear. Factory or not it's just sweet. Is the new block going in it?

That hasn't been decided yet. My son will be the one taking on this project but would likely prefer to put something in with a bit more power.

What was your previous life? Professional bank robber turned Zambian PH to evade the law? Even being ignorant of exact makes and or models of a few of those I know it's a crazy lineup.
