Classic Airplanes

So many great warbirds. WW-ll, B 17 and P 51 are classics, but the P-38 and Mosquito always intrigued me.
Korea and Cold War: Saber, Super Saber and B-58
Viet Nam: F-4, F-111
Modern: F-22, F-15

Several years back, and I had forgotten that they were at an airshow in the DFW area, the confederate Air Force headed back east and passed over lake Lavon, where I was trying to catch crappie. Over the north shore, the P-51 Mustangs and F4U Corvair fighter planes began to outmatch each other in aerobatics. They would spiral upward until stalling and plunge downward over and over. Don't remember any loop-te-loops, but they were sure having fun. The B17 just continued on and left them to catch up later.
My nephew, who has a pilot's license said it was because that was an area designated as unpopulated, otherwise they would have been breaking the law. I think it is probably a LOT more populated today, but what a sight to see!

So many great aircraft, so hard to choose just one as a favorite. I’m biased toward the P-38, but I love them all.
A few vintage photos from dad’s photo album. He flew P-38’s out of Foggia Italy in WWII.

My dad, heavy equipment operator, built runways in the Philippines and New Guinea for the B-17, P-38 and P-39 Air Cobra.

My daily driver- when we had camp in AK, the Immortal Beaver! I miss those days, and this old girl. Always brought us home- but more than once I was wondering! My favorite of all the planes I’ve owned and flown.View attachment 720458

A classic airplane of general aviation: the Beechcraft Debonair

Cheers! Bob F. :)

from Google AI: "The Beechcraft Debonair is a single-engine piston aircraft that was introduced in 1960 as a less expensive version of the V-tail Bonanza, featuring a more conventional straight tail. It is a four-seat, high-performance aircraft with retractable landing gear, known for its speed, cross-country capability, and reliable performance. Although initially stripped down to reduce costs, most "luxury" features were soon offered as optional equipment, and production continued until 1995, with the "Debonair" name being phased out in favor of the Bonanza name in 1968."

Yes, this is a McCauley Prop, not Hartzell!
The IO520 produces 285HP (not 280).

Another classic airplane of general aviation: the Cessna 182
This 1957 Cessna 182A was made in only the second year of production! (The 182 was introduced in 1956.) Let's follow along as "Schmiiindy" tells us about her airplane.

Great photos @BFaucett . A B-25 flew over my house last Friday, on the way to the airshow in Hammond. I heard the sound of a big radial engine, then realized it was the sound of 2 radial engines. Great to see these classics still flying!

By the way, apparently Schmiiindy has some connections. :D
